Default QLD Gateway Motorists

I found this posted on Boostcruising so I thought it would be good for some to help understand prior to the changes.

Traffic changes prior to new motorway opening

From 28 June 2009 (weather permitting), changes will occur just north of the Gateway Bridge for southbound traffic. The changes are in preparation for the progressive opening of a new 7km section of Gateway Motorway north of the Brisbane River, between the Gateway Bridge and just south of Nudgee Road. The new Motorway will open in mid July 2009.

Good post Mick - I don't see it freeing up the motorway much though.

Its not meant to, they are just moving the traffic off the existing road for rehabilitation. There will be plenty more routing of traffic to go yet.

I'm talking about the whole duplication thing. They aren't doing anything to the highway north of Nudgee, so it's still going to have the same old bottle neck.

I know this is swaying away from the topic at hand but did anyone read about the tolls increasing as of the 1st of July?

I travel the Gateway every work day and some weekends and will be pleased to see this new section open. There is always congestion from Nudgee (and everywhere else) and maybe this will free it up a bit. Pity it wasn't built 10 years ago like the rest of the roadworks we currently suffer with. I'm one of the few people who actually do the posted limits and can't wait till they bin the 40, 60 and 80 speed limits on this road and let us get back up to 100. I average 42klms per hour south bound and 38klms per hour northbound. More like a school zone than a motorway.
Cheers
Keith

I think that is slated for an upgrade to 6 lanes after all this is done.

I think all the improvements will be good when they are done. I would really like to take a drive somewhere, anywhere, where there are NO roadworks. Seems like a constant battle with closed lanes, 40klm speed limits and concrete barriers.
Cheers
