Default Thankful my kid was driving a ford

Sunday just gone I had the horrid phone call.... Mum can you come tow me out, I've had an accident. Get to the scene. My daughter has not panicked but hung on to her car and kept calm( with baby in back) and spun out on the soggy gravel road.
She hit a small tree, and that's all the damage she did. Tore the bumper off. Never broke any glass..
We dragged it out and drove it home. But unfortunately she a write off.
No one was hurt to the point bubs was laughing when she turned the car off...
So thankful I chose a good sturdy car.

From your comments I'd guess you live in rural area so your daughter has learnt from long experience what gravel roads can do. Good news cars can be replaced lives can't.

FWD & gravel do not agree with each other, especially when wet. Pleased all are OK.

In this scenario a FWD may have been better, you just don't know, so many variable's.

Il get flamed but a FWD is much better than RWD on low traction surfaces.

I also agree, however it doesn't look like a case of power over steer, which is the rwd thing, and understeer, (power) understeer is the FWD thing. The tree being hit on the angle has probably helped dampen the shock and any injuries to the little one more then sliding off the road head first and the sudden stop of hitting a stationary object. Yes the car may not have survived, but atleast the driver did, and with no injuries, the baby has another 100 odd years to look forward too

Thank you all for the positives.. Yes my daughter has been driving in the rural area since before getting her license. Farm kid.
She loved her AU, it was done up with all the things kids can have on the p's.
Loud exhaust, mags, and the twin fin. But it did have super light power steering, to which is a factor. But now the hardest thing is finding a car she likes...grrr
It did also have over 439000 on the clock. Not bad.

Sometimes **** happens and lucky for her it was not too bad. Cars can be replaced after all. Glad to see a safe outcome.

G'day...GLAD SHE'S OKAY...CARS CAN BE FIXED OR REPLACED . PEOPLE CAN'T... Now..Re the AU..Forgive my ignorance on this stuff but where do they draw the line on repairable write off and total 'write off'... I suppose it's when the cost of repair matches the market or insured value of the car.

The reason I ask is that about thee months ago a former workmate nearly collided with a cow late one night in his XF Ute..The car finished up in a ditch .
Next morning when he got it dragged out it was visually not too bad. He was hoping to hear back from his insurance company that it was repairable because he'd had it since brand new. He loved that ute. He replaced the L.H. front wheel and drove it home about 20 kms..

A couple of weeks later I bumped into him and asked how he got on..They wrote it off and the buy back price was more than he could afford..
To say I was skeptical was an under statement. Bloody insurance companies sometimes because they'll take you down any way they can.

He ended up buying a BA RTV with the 3V V8. in Fair nick but it sounds like a threshing machine at idle..A dodgey VCT cam phaser apparently..

Hopefully your daughter will find another tidy AU or something similar to replace the damaged car..Once again , so long as she's okay is the main thing..

Repairable write-offs are where the cost of repair exceeds the insured value of the car, but it can be re-registered after necessary repairs are complete. Statutory write-offs are where it cannot be re-registered by operation of law (possibly because it cannot be repaired to factory safety standards).

Personally, if my insurer decided that one of my cars is a repairable write-off, I'd be very tempted to withdraw the claim and just pay for it to be fixed myself. I'd empty my entire bank account if I had to in order to keep them on the road.

Pretty much so it doesn't take much to write off an old Falcon
