Default QLD fog light laws

Much to the dismay of the "look at me" crowd as of next month fog lights will now be illegal to operate when there is no fog, night or day.

To make it even more fun my spys tell me that they don't even need to pull you over.

Like seatbelt and mobile phone offences all they need to do is take you piccy with the speed camera (which are manned by Police in QLD) and you get a fine in the mail.

Looks like captain bligh has found another cash cow..........

P.S. Driving lights must operate with high beam so if your defense is that they are not fog lights then you must admit driving on high beam which is a bigger fine and more points.

Info from usual suspects

Thanks for the heads up on this. I know on the wifes rodeo, the low beam lights are not very good at all.

As you pointed out, cash cow on the move again.
On the opposite side of the coin, there is some sense to it ..... somewhere.
At the rate the revenue raises are going, we may all have to apply for an annual permit to pass wind while driving.

So sick of douchebags driving with their high-beams/fog lights/driving lights on when it's not necessary or in traffic. Glad to hear it.

Fog lights on with high beams defeats the purpose of fog lights.

Yes it will. As of October it will be illegal, it is not at the moment.

There is not point anyone doing the usual dummy spit in the pro or anti direction. It is the law and it will be happening.
It is being advertised constantly on the radio up here and the info I was giving was that you do not need to be pulled over to be booked.

This means it is easy money so it WILL cop a flogging.

Don't like it???? Remember when you vote.

If you voted for captain bligh and you are upset about this, remember, YOU wanted her so IT IS YOUR FAULT.......

Never said i did or didnt like it, my car doesnt even have them anyway. Nor do i care if other people use them. As for who voted for whom, lets keep that out of here thanks.
But your right it will be a cash cow and the will flog it to no end. As for them talking about it, this is the first ive heard of it. Keep it low so when it becomes law they will catch out unsuspecting victims

The second part of that was not aimed at you rather at everyone. It was also not meant to be political other than pointing out there is no use complaining now, elections are the time to do that.

It was on B105, MIX97, ZINC and SEAFM today...

This is very good news. I hate those 'driving lights'. Also, anyone notice they only illuminate the road up to about 3m in front of you? if you are looking there, you've already hit it.

//edit:
also, i wonder how this law will go with Fairlanes etc that illuminate one corner's driving light whilst turning a corner?

The other major change is that it is now illegal to do a U turn over a single solid white line.
Watch out for that one as it is OK to cross it to overtake.

At the same time they passed regs making the driver in ALL instances responsible for all persons in a vehicle wearing seat belts.

& they made some changes to child restraints for age....

Just imagine how many points a school bus driver could loose if he/r were pulled over.........a cabbie could loose the lot with his first fare.....

Just to save you some grief, you cannot cross a solid white line at all.
What about the merging lane debate, Qld Transport claim the broken line at the end of a merge lane means GIVE WAY?

I have fog lights on my car and dont use them however I have never understood why people get so peeved about others that do? They sit low in the front bar aren't that strong a light and in daylight there neither here or there. You can drive with your low beams on in daylight legally and as far as I can see there is no difference in wattage between the 2. People will whinge about anything nowdays and govt's are always looking for ways to put their hand in your pocket.

Don't you agree? The amount of times ive seen people slam on the brakes on the highway to try let someone merge when they are just about at a stop themselves because they dont know how to merge either :

Oh yes I couldn't agree more. Happens everytime with the merging, I suppose it's no wonder with so much confusion for one law.

The driving lights really don't bother me on the average car, but lately the large 4wd's have them mounted higher and are blinding in some cases.

So when i see Mr Plod driving along in his fully sicc Avalon Sportivo, opps mean Aurion, with his fog lamps on, can I pull him over and ask him to write himself a ticket?

I have an easy solution to foglights, disconnect them!!!

That's right, when you cross a broken line to merge you must give way to traffic in that lane. You will notice sometimes there is no broken line ie both lane markers end. When you see this the rule is merge in turn.

While I always show courtesy with merging traffic I'm amazed by the number of drivers that use the "b pillar" rule when merging across a broken line.

Is the QLD rule inconsistent with other states?

I was under the impression this was made uniform nation wide (like roundabouts), however debate continues through media and auto forums on the subject?

Is there a legal distinction between 'driving lights' & 'fog lights' ? They serve 2 different functions don't they?
