Default Anyone here work or know of someone who work for Jet Couriers or similar?

Don't know if i'll get many responses but...

I used to work for TNT from late 2005 till mid 2008. I left because i hurt my back after a pallet fell on me. I was stuck driving small vans most of the time (which I hated) and used to have to do up to 70+ plus drops a day.

I did sometime get to drive the larger "Bulk" trucks which I enjoyed.

Anyway, I've been seeing a lot of 1 tonne utes getting around with either Jet Couriers or Capital Transport on them. Jet always seem to be looking, and after speaking to a driver for a little it's something I'd really like to look into.

I prefer the ute to start with, but if funds allow later on, a 4 tonne truck would be ideal from what i've been told.

Does anyone here do this type of work, or know somebody who does? Interested in earning potentials and what the opinions are.

I'm not interested in driving a 1 tonne van anymore.

Cheers,

Paul.

My dad worked for them for quite a few years until he recently retired, he was very happy how he was treated, but he would do approx 100,000 klms a year and there are a lot of better paying jobs out there.

Grab your local paper and have a look. Jet couriers, Allied Express etc are always posting adds looking for owner drivers.

If your going in as an owner driver ask one of the Jets subbies people you see now.

There will be a fair bit of overheads. Insurance for the van, yourself, superannuation, maintenance and very long hours.

If they advertise as much as has been said I doubt the returns are worth the effort.

And be very wary if they advertise a van with work!

Hmmm.... Interesting. I've spoken to a couple. The one with the Jet Courior ute said he made around $70,000 working 8-10 hour days, while I spoke to one from Capital who admitted he was too lazy to get to the depot at 7am, so didn't make as much.

Both seemed fairly happy with their work.

It was suggested to me to buy a 4 tone truck as they do really well, but I'd prefer to start off in a ute with ADHOC work.

You can earn more than that driving someone elses vehicle, my driver is on about $70k plus Super, workcover, public hols etc......

Take out your running costs from $70,000 and hope you don't have a major breakdown, you would be lucky to gross $50k

Ive done this work before but luckilly on a hourly rate.in past experience the places always advertising are either always taking on new clients/runs or are not great to work for.usually constant hiring means constant firing/people leaving.

If you really enjoy driving its a good job.You also get to meet alot of people/contacts.

70k would be very lucky to end up 50k as mentioned.

I work for Victorian Freight Specialists in Dandenong South/Doveton. Im well aware that you said you were over 1 tonne vans but, if you decide to get back into it, we are chasing a bunch of owner drivers for our 'Courier Division' the rates are pretty good from what ive heard and, if your in Doveton, we are right across the road.

Yeah vans are out. I hate driving the things. My friends brother works for a courier company with a van and he just works and works and works. Even on weekends. If I was to do it for myself it'd be either a ute or small truck.

The other problem I'd have is actually getting a loan. My lovely ex wife sent me bankrupt and i'm still in bankruptcy till December 2012, then have another few years after that.
