ive driven both kent 1600 and pinto 2ltr and i much prefer the pinto there is a fair bit o difference in power, dont get me wrong u can get a heap o power out o the 1600's but if spent the same amount o money on a 2ltr the 1600 would come off second best not matter the weight difference.

according to david vizzard who wrote 'How To Modify Your Ford S.O.H.C) the biggest power output from a 2lt S.O.H.C was 620bhp, which was achieved by dave esslingers turboed sand dragster.
there was also mention of one of davids own cars that dynod at 150hp at part throttle(full power tests were not possible because the car was literally jumping off the rollers).

But this kind of power is obvisously ponitless to most ppl.

My mate did have a 2lt escort with 180bhp in his road car

id love to dyno my mk2. Mine has a 2L with a boatload of work done to it and goes quite hard. Personally i haven't driven a 1600 but i must admit the 2L is so much fun, so lumpy and old school its awesome!

The best part about the escorts ive found isnt the straight line performance though, the handling makes them so much fun. Pure RWD animals! :

220hp out of a naturally aspirated SOHC Pinto is VERY optimistic and to put it bluntly, you won't get it.

Been around Pintos a while now and anything over 180hp is alot, and that's spending the big dollars on the engine, not just ripping one out of rusting Escort.

I thought to myself, 220 from a pinto sounds like pub-talk to me.
I've only ever come across one pinto that legitimately pushed out over 200 and that was a full-on, 10 grand job. Its all pretty academic if you can't get that down to the road. My 130bhp Pinto (at the fly) will smoke most 6 cylinders off the line and thats with close to standard suspension. Not bad for $600.
