I will try not to rant or to preach, but here is what I need to say.

Last night my son was driving his mums car (KF Laser Ghia) and swerved to miss some idiot in a commadore who pulled out in front of him doing 20 klm ( probably top speed for a commadore). He swerved off the road clipped a large gum tree, missed a concrete lightpole, rolled 3 times, bounced the roof of the car on a concrete pole about 4 - 5 feet tall and landed the car in a service road on its tyres.The car is a complete write off, almost every window is smashed and every panel is cactus as well.
My son has walked away from this accident with a sore wrist from holding on to the steering wheel while it rolled.No other injuries cuts or bruises what so ever. He was wearing his seat belt and had not been drinking but road conditions were poor at the time. The Fireys, Ambo's and Police all said that if he wasn't wearing a seat belt the outcome would not have been very good at all.
After seeing the car everyone suggest a tatts ticket as he soooooo lucky.
I will try and put a few pix up so you can see what I mean but the purpose of this thread is to firstly say:
Thanks Ford for building a car that saved my sons life.
and secondly
Seat belts do save lives....

Who is going to wear the blame for the accident? Did the dunnydoor driver stop?

I suppose it doesn't really matter!! He's alive to tell the tale!!

Thanks Matt RS2000, the other driver did not stop and unfortunatly the 3 witnesses did not get a rego, and yeah it doesnt matter he is fine and thats all that matters.

That's a nasty one. Great to hear your son got out intact.

As for that Commodore driver, just disgraceful. If you cause an accident, even if you didn't touch the other car, you should at least stop to see if the occupants are OK

Yeah thanks Dezza, They should have charges for " almost hit and run" as most people dont take responsability for their own actions.

seriously i am sure that if the commdore drive was charged he would have several charges to face, some of which would include failure to stop at an accident, negligent driving and negligently causing harm to a human being. or that is what i think he could get charged with anyway. glad to hear your son is fine....

by the way, i agree seatbelts definatly save lives, and i have to say i am amazed how well the little laser held up!

I hate to tall ya, but you can't thank Ford for the laser as it a Mazda 323 as Ford rebadge them here in Australia as the laser.

Thats awesome that he walked away with only a sore wrist. Seeing those photos actually makes me feel better as I used to drive one of those Lasers. Solid cars, those are.

I'm amazed that it held up well as it did. I've seen a lot of Lasers that have been in accidents, and can tell you that they're anything but solid. You would be safer stabbing yourself than getting into a accident in one of those things!

Glad your son is AOK. When will Commondore drivers learn that they dont own the road. I dont wanna turn this thread sour by bagging the opponent but the hoon law/confiscated car statistics speak for themselves.

i have nothing but praise for those LASERS as i too survived a high speed crash whilst driving one ( i was virtually uninjured ) i was hit from behind whilst doing about 90 to 100kms an hour by a commadore driver who didnt stop either . he left the seen .
the ambulance officers mentioned that these cars often produce good outcomes in accidents . mine didnt roll it spun around 3 times at 90km/hr though.

anyhow . when you are not physically harmed in a serious accident . you get neglected by the system , because you can , as i did , suffer post traumatic depression , months after the accident . keep a close eye on your son . look for attitude changes over the next 6 months, and he may need help . if he changes .

i'm very glad he is ok , and thankfull to FORD FOR THE LASER AS WELL.

I'm glad to hear he's OK, probably lucky he wasn't in an early Falcon. Apparently the XD Falcon is very unsafe in roll-over situations, and Ford Australia were petioned by spinal injury units to change the design, something to do with structural support of the A-pillars being insufficient to support the car if it went on it's roof.

I thought the Laser was a ford design based on the 323 platform. Mazda built most of the Australian ones and shipped them in CKD form to the Homebush factory; in the USA where the car was badged escort and they sold over 1 million of them, I think they were built in South America or Mexico.
Ford own Mazda anyway.

He was doing between 80 - 85 kmh when he left the road and went through a plantation with tan bark which I feel did not help to wash of the speed.

I do appreciate everybodys concern and good wishes and yes I will watch him closely over time to ensure ther is no residuale effects from the accident.

The Laser was designed by Mazda, but were built at the Ford assembly plant at Homebush, Sydney. (now closed down)
