Default Can you lose traction on take off ?

Just wondering if you can lose traction at the sqeeze of your right foot from a standstill ?

What car have you got as well?

The old AU has never chirped off the mark but gets going after this...

Sometimes, depends on road surface.
Oh, and if I put those crappy 17" tires back on I can wheelspin at will off the line.

BA XR6, 5spd manual will not spin the wheels from idle (800rpm), however from 1300rpm take off is brisk and possible some slip from the 245/40/18 wheels. ANy more than 1500 and its smoke city and flying towards 6000rpm and 2nd gear in short time.

My old VS with the stock 15s would smoke up the drive wheel at the touch of the throttle. Frustrating when you wanna drag someone but can't get traction in a standard V6 with 3.08 ss. When I had the 18s fitted it had no chance unless you stalled it up.

When I had the XR 16s on my EL it had really shit rear tyres and would step out sideways with a hard launch. With the 17s the tyres will just squeel for a bit then get going. This is with 3:45 LSD

yeah my car does... eb wagon 6cyl with 5spd manual.. and fairly bald tyre, single spinner (225wide tyres). its spinning pretty easy with taking off at the moment.. it will do it with taking off kinda normally and flooring it.

and of course with a manual if you get the revs up a bit and let go of the clutch quick.. then wheelspins easy.

I can get mine spinning sometimes but not often and that is with practically bald 235/17's and a single spinner. If I stall it up to around 1700rpm it gets the best take off with the least wheelspin I think. I still need a high stall and LSD though.

in the NL with 3.08 single spinner and 235/40/18's you have to be kidding right:P hehe it wont stand still even with me stalling it:( even in the wet it has drama's, if u get it going and over 3000rpm there will be a decent smoke show but untill then nutting:(

It is quite glamorous to spin the wheels but I am thinking that the perfect takeoff is one where you get best traction before you wheelspin with the given weight of your vehicle. So you are actually moving the given weight off the line with maximum velocity without sitting there. It seems to create alot of problems and people seem to fight a heap to get traction .

Give it a jab and easily spin up a new 235, hopefully getting an LSD will solve that. SS on a V8 is just wrong.

Bad news, if your only spinning your right wheel, you have killed your LSD....

My car needs RPB to spin. 255 on rear and the weight of the LTD with audio doesn't help.

The exhaust is pretty close the the rear wheels, are you sure that you're not confusing the cloud of smoke billowing from the exhaust for wheel smoke? just a question, im not poking fun at the oil burning Gen3.

Mine'll only do it in the wet.

The car I raced was a manual and it was the guys second go at launching it. It was his mates car, all 3 of them were mighty impressed with the ol' EB's efforts.

My XF was much the same as where it was a struggle to not spin the wheels. The 351 just had heaps of torque down low and Im sure the crap suspension didnt help much.

Nup can't chirp it (auto). Although I don't have many mods, and the 235s dont really help it either.

Iwas going to talk further about the Holdens...but I really was interested simply to see which fords spin off the line.???I have to stall it up to get any chirp..My standard cam gave bigger burnout of the mark

EA falcon with 3 speed? Yeah sure <sarcasm>lots of wheelspin!</sarcasm>

It could manage it with the old tyres in the wet, but with the new 17s - not a chance. Which is a good thing - I'd rather not trash these tyres.

The XD does not hesitate to get totally out of shape, as anyone who was at the drag day a few months ago can attest. Without moving the front wheels it'll do a 90degree turn on the spot!!!

The XF has always been exceptional with traction, except with the stockies on it of course.

The EA is pathetic. Has no power but will still drop one wheel on takeoff and always when I don't want it to. I reckon thats a general trait of e-series cars though.... my mates EF XR8 was 10x worse and it had an LSD (also did the best burnout's i've ever seen from a dead stock car!).

LOL...well since I see smoke in the Drivers mirror as well as the passenger (LSD) and being a Holden the Zorst is on the left of the car..and being its going sideways...I am fairly sure the wheels are spinning...also might add 3 sets of SO3's in 15 months....YEP THEY ARE SPINNING....on a side note I see C.A.P.A made 1022 rwkw in the crewman on the weekend...not bad for a oil burning GENIII.....
