Was driving between Melb and Sydney on the Hume (you could do this in the Old Times) somewhere south of Canberra and had one go past me on song with full sirens going chasing a reknaw who had gone by fast about 5 minutes before. The HWP car sounded fantastic and the speed was incredible.
"Last of the V8 interceptors" gets replaced with "last of the Turbo interceptors" - wind up the boost, Barry!

Police cars were nothing more than tools to get the jobs done and that's how they were used. I'd rather buy a ex hertz car |

Just to prove they don't make 'em like they used to.
My old ex H'way patrol car (XC) I bought from the government auctions in 1981, still going strong, original 351 motor, FMX and 9 inch. Sure they've been rebuilt. Done about 440,000 kays now.

The only police cars I would ever buy are the Commanders cars, Cars that are allocated one or two drivers, and a Highway car that was assigned to dignitary duties escorting VIPs etc… Those cars are generally looked after well.
Run of the mill General Duties and HWP cars no way. And yes I have owned 2 x ex HWP cars. 1978 XC 5.8 sedan auto. 1982 XE 5.8 manual sedan. That was before I joined the police. And yes…. Both those falcons were pieces of ……… |

I did consider buying one ex police car once. It was an AU lll that had only ever been driven by me from new when I was working in a one man show. It was the only marked car in the region, and possibly the entire state, that had factory mud flaps on it! I bought them myself because it made it much easier to keep the car clean, given that I was also the bloke who had to wash it! Whoever got that car got a beauty. |

I paid 18K for it, which at the time was around half the price of a new one. In those days you'd drive them from the Auction to the nearest motor registry to get them registered. It got knocked back initially because the window tint was too dark. There was a motorcycle copper there at the time & I queried the tint failing registration. The answer given was 'special rules for police'. My daughter & I then pulled the tint off the windows on the spot & they registered it there & then, even though the adhesive residue was still on the glass & you couldn't see through it. Never had any problems with it whist I owned it. Actually it was amusing when those speeding would come up to it on the highway & sit behind not game enough to go past. The chasers had a look about them back then. |

Hi Guy's
I have a mate whom i went to School with and when we both left School he became a Cop. He went thru the Police Academy when it was in Redfern in Sydney. He retired about 4 years ago and i once asked him " why he never brought a ex highway patrol car". He told me "no way these car's get a hard work out and get flogged. I remember a guy i knew brought a XC 5.8 Litre Falcon from the then Goverment Motor Garage and he brought it to tow his boat. |

Sure it's flogged if you want it to actually drive but it would be a great addition to a collection, which is more where I see this car going.

Very true fnp. If this is genuinely the last chaser to be decommissioned in Australia, then it is truly a piece of Australian motoring history. Regardless of make, the home built sedans certainly served with honour.

Dont think its the last chaser (there are some VF2 SS's still roaming around) but definitely the last Ford one at least...
I certainly wouldnt buy an Ex Chaser but would make a good addition to a collection, or for someone who wants the "last of the line"

VicPol had 2 XR8 Sprints. One was written off in a pursuit and one was de-commissioned and auctioned last year, going for mid $40k from memory (plus premiums).
