It's gonna bite oil companies in the ИИИИ soon. The higher the prices, the less people are going to buy, and more and more people will buy smaller, more fuel effecient cars/hybrids.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard most middle east oil companies made a greater profit before the price hikes.

Time for all the unmarried males out there to hook up with the daughters of a Petrol station owners.

Or better yet a daughter of an oil sheik.

Actually I think we need to be more like the Indonesians (shock horror), they really now how to fight for their cheap petrol.

Cutting of government subsidies and even talking about taxes = rioting in the streets and the toppling of gov'ts. Unless we get a bit more pro-activ in our fights against excise and fuel company profiteering, we dont really deserve cheap fuel.

Its time to grab a pitchfork and pursue some mob justice.

I'll give the hybrids a miss, they're for special people like this :

Until i read your disclaimer, I was going to rally the troops and march on Canberra......

In the USA, they have OTHER taxes, they may pay less per litre for fuel, BUT, they get hit elsewhere, the GST/VAT they charge in each state is where they get hit...

Funny you should say that, the other day whilst filling up, i got talking to a gentleman whilst i was filling my car.

He was of Middle-eastern decent (im not being racial, just stating facts) and he said that in the country he was born in, if the government did what ours is doing in terms of taxing, people would just riot and burn down petrol stations.

Not the best solution to a problem, but an effective one. Perhaps if a more organised objection to petrol prices was laid out, the government might do something about it. Of course, the objection should in no way be violent or reckless.

just had a look at the highest recorded price for fuel in america. US$3.057 per US gallon. US67c per litre. So round about AU48c to the litre for the highest price for regular unleaded this year in the states

The thing I don't understand, when the fuel prices went to $1.30 in september last year, oil was about $60 a barrel, now we have $70 and it is still $1.30, where is the gouging from last year gone.......

It'd be about 93c Aus, conversion around the wrong way. I wish our dollar worked like that :S.

From what I've heard its got nothing to do with how much they get out of the ground, they can pump it quick enough, its just that there isn't enough refineries in the world to process the crude. Demand is currently outstripping suply with an emerging China, and there isn't enough infrastructure to ensure adquite supply.

If only George Bush would hurry up and nuke China, then we will start to see petrol prices go down. Jk.

Dont forget that the US gallon is different to ours. Its 1 US gallon = 3.78 litres.
Therefore at US3.057 per US gallon = .US807c per litre.Which means they are paying 1.07 AUS per litre.
