Not only being told how much power and fuel we can use.
But what we can eat as well. What happens when you run out of credits and cant afford anymore until the next allocation? And which learned person(do you get fries with that) decides what the parameters are. http://www.scu.edu.au/news/media.php...ow_item&type=M “This is a project for looking at reducing climate change and obesity in the one hit. It is recognising that both obesity and climate change have similar drivers so we are tackling two of the world’s biggest problems at the moment with the one project with a system that is quite unique. “The way the system will work is basically it will involve giving everyone on the island a carbon card, like a credit or debit card, and they will get carbon units on that card. Then every time they go and pay for their petrol or their power - and from the second year their food - it will not only be paid for in money but it will also come off the carbon units that they are given for free at the start of the program. “If they’re frugal and don’t buy a lot of petrol or power or fatty foods, then they can actually have units to spare at the end of a set time period so that they can cash those in at the bank and make money from them. “If they aren’t frugal and they are very wasteful and they produce a lot of carbon and consume unhealthy foods then every year they will have to buy extra units. Also over time - as we target lower carbon emissions and increasing health goals - the number of carbon units they are given will go down and therefore the price for the individual will go up to sustain that lifestyle they are not prepared to forego. . |

Carbon wise it doesn't sound completely ridiculous, I don't mind the idea, although the fatty foods taking points wouldn't work, their idea of a good diet and a truly nutritious one could be totally different. Also people who eat a higher proportion of food would be disadvantaged because even the same percentage of what they consider unhealthy food would mean more points?

This is typical of the new red, which is green. They think they, as the supposed common good, can control and dictate what is best for you.

“The reason it is so suitable is you have an isolated community with a small population living a similar lifestyle to people on mainland Australia."
Lets take a snap shot of Norfolk Island then compare that to a snap shot of the outer suburbs of most Aussie Capital Cities. Yeah right!!! |

Just like all this carbon trading/ global warming crap, it's all rubbish. As flappist said, it's for making money. It's scaremongering the masses to be worried about such events and pay money in order for governments to do something about it in order to make billions of it.
Anyone see that story on the doco a few weeks back where they did 100 coral core samples from reefs around Australia, and found out that the drilled cores proved that our droughts and wet years occur in 15-30 yr segments? Basically the last 15yrs or so has been the dry, and is transitioning into what it was before that at the moment. |

Here is a snippet from "The Australian" last year regarding Australias Carbon Footprint.
"Individual efforts to reduce energy use will have absolutely no effect on the level of Australia's emissions," he said. "The least understood feature of the ETS is that the more effort households put into reducing their energy use, the more spare permits they are freeing up for the big polluters. It is a zero-sum game." you can read the full article here http://www.theaustralian.com.au/busi...-1111118919416 |

So let me get this straight, they give you free money/points/clams that you can use to get free petrol and food.
Gee, I can’t figure out WHY the Norfolkers are in favour of it? |

So, I take my 20 Shekels, put 5 in the V8, leaving 15 Shekels, but I made too much carbon so they take another 10 Shekels for carbon, but then I have a Whopper Double Beef with Cheese and Bacon, Large Onion rings and an Extra Large Coke costing five shekels, then after that they say I ate too fatty lunch taking another 10 Shekels, I am no fat (according to the Gurus) and in debt to them for 5 Shekels, bugger me, life will become very boring very quick.

Use too much carbon/eat lots of unhealthy food and you pay again for more credits. Also what sucks is it says once they achieve goals, the number of points will be reduced. So as a reward for living within the imposed limits is those limits are tightened further. So those who are good and make money selling back unused credits get screwed over and those using extra pay even more. Which says to me it is primarily a money maker.

good to see my tax dollars at work.
what about if i plant trees on my farm, do the trees accept my carbon credit card and give me credits - I would probably have to fill in 50 forms and the required bureaucracy required to manage the program would offset any benefits. The only greenies i listen to live in the bush "off the grid" and usually have some interesting ideas (and brownies). The dingbats that live in apartments or townhouses that call them self greenies are really just watermelons (green on the outside and red in the middle) |

I'm 6'2" and weigh 72kgs. Why are the vocal minority of do gooders so intent on persecuting me because of my diet, is it because I'm part of a minority group (not obese)?
Ah bugger it, this thread has made me hungry, a couple of double whoppers with cheese for lunch sounds good |

I'm with flappist and rodderz. It's a scam. All about control.
And those who simply say it's an experiment, this is where all the best green/red,social engineering type ideas gather momentum. One key problem with their experiment though, what can you actually do with the money you accrue at the end of the year or two? If you actually buy anything with it, won't that damage your delicate carbon footprint? LOL! GK
