Default Oh bother

Well what a fun night at Heathcote. Got a few passes in, nowhere near my PB and she never really felt happy. Pulled a ripper burnout for my 4th and last pass (I think there is a pic of it somewhere :evil3: ) but that's where the fun ended. Got to about 1/2 track on the 4th pass and something felt wrong so I got out of the throttle.

Took her back to the pits and could feel that it was only running on 7 cylinders. After numerous inspections, Cheers Gaz, Whoosh, Kev, Melz, Ben, Stef, Mr & Mrs Bloke and everyone else who came to have a squiz, it was decided that yes there was an issue and that issue sounds like either a broken valve spring or a bent valve. Not good but not real bad.

Managed to nurse her the near on 2 hours back to Ballarat and during that trip I had a chance to think. Do I just repair/replace the broken/bent bit or, now this is the bit I like, use Russell logic of where if you break something you must replace it with other parts that will give to more go ponies.

In saying this I am thinking I may pull the XR off the road for a while until I have the required $$ for some new heads, a new throttlebody and a new intake. Decisions, decisions.....

That decision has already been made ages ago. 185's FTMFW!! That is unless something else comes up that is cheaper.

The best excuse. When something goes wrong it is always a good idea to upgrade
AFR 185cc for the win. Any ideas on intake manifold you want to be running?

I'll probably go with the Edelbrock performer RPMII.

Factor into your pricing something to keep the mrs happy because she is dead set going to kill you. Im going to find you on my doorstep with a garbage bag I just know it - thankfully I've moved!

Here's the funny thing. Small things that cost a few hundred she gets all angry and yelly about but when something like this happens and I tell her I need new heads, intake etc she stays calm and says "we'll just have to work it out". I think she secretly loves my car.

Oh bother is now Oh CRAP.

Just got the R/H cover off and I can't see any broken springs.

Can anyone see anything I can't?

That's the R/H bank 4>3>2>1.

Going to go check the L/H bank now and then check spark plugs for damage.

Bad luck russ, its a bad feeling when this happens,
Good to see your keeping your chin up..

Maybe time to think of standing out from the crowd, and get yourself some killer aussie made heads and manifold that will get you into the 11's without even trying, let me know and I can ask for a deal for you..

Cheers mate, no point in getting all depressed about it. It can be fixed. If you could get me a price on that stuff it would be appreciated mate.

L/H bank, 5>6>7>8

So as far as I can see it isn't a valve spring. I pulled all the plugs and none were broekn so to me that says there wasn't anything floating around in any of the pots.

Bent valve maybe?

I'd be trying compression test, and/or trying removing one plug lead at a time
when running to isolate the dud cylinder.

Tried removing them, made no difference so we couldn't isolate it. It'll be heading of to Bluepower I think.

Peuty this is just a little extreme for not seeing Austin, if I didn't want to see him I'd just tell him because I am not soft
