Sterio problem ( I think)

The other day the sterio in the wagon suddenly blew the fuse out of the blue and now there is a short in the circuit somewhere that I can't seem to find easily. I have a few questions before I go climbing under the dash and start to try and trace it;
- What else is on the stereo circuit that might be causing the short?
- Is it likely to just be the head unit itself?
- Where are the most likely spots that a short can manifest itself that'd be the first places to check?
_ If it is the head unit itself, what would be a good reliable and cost effective aftermarket replacement that will be easiest to fit and hopefully plug straight in without needing rewiring?

Any help would be most gratefully appreciated as it would save me a heap of time and agrivation of possably pulling the dash apart for nothing.

The manual says the stereo is by itself on that fuse. You can get almost any headunit and get an Aeropro harness adapter to match the Ford AU. You then just match up the headunit's wires to the harness's ones. You'll lose the steering wheel controls though.

Given you have almost the same car as me, it's easy to do if you know which wires are which. There was a tute on here showing it for AU1 and I had to work it out for AU2. I got a cheapo eBay multimedia player from Hong Kong and the Aerpro harness made it effortless.

dont do what i did and cut the harness off, lol. Took me a while to work out the wiring using a AA battery and a multimeter.

G'day Dauphin, thanks for the input, it's good to know only the radio is on that circuit and there's a harness adaptor but I'm talking about the missus' wagon not my 'lane. As for matching up the wires, I'm a bit nervous about doing that sort of stuff because I have a red deficiency and am colour blind, a bit :rolleyes:, so any colours that are close with any red in it I struggle with; green/brown - blue/purple - yellow/green, you get the idea........ and what the hell is the colour mustard anyway?!
