To much fuel used

Just need a 1.2.3 .of things to check and replace on a I6 apart from the usual service items .. Not up on 6 potters

at 200000 + on the clock I am guessing O2 sensor would be a good start ??

Why not - might as well start somewhere. Intake leaks (they're reknowned for the bolts loosening up over time). Thermostat. T-Map sensor in the manifold too? Then the usual like plugs, leads etc. Sorry - I wasn't here and you aren't seeing this.........

This is what i would do in order.

Reset ecu, Go for a drive and see how it goes.
Find a scan tool and check oxygen sensor voltage/Resistance, Cant remember which one they use. Pretty sure its voltage though.
Also check TMAP sensor voltage and vacuum line leading to it.
Then replace oxygen sensor if shagged and service injectors for good measure.
If symptoms persist see your car care professional.

Coil pack is probably on it's way also. Perhaps worth looking at that. A scan tool wil also say if it's on it's way out

Plugs,leads, coil pack has been done not long ago just chasing some fuel economy 350 a tank from 450 /500 seems a bit odd

Thats pretty shocking economy, definently something not right there considering I get 400klms out of a tank on my XR8 just driving around town and certainly not sedately.

Apart from the usuals, personally Id check/replace the O2 sensor, clean the TB, reset ECU.. Check the air filter panel isnt blocked with dust.. It could also have a blocked or worn out cat or blocked/restrictied exhaust.. You could also have a fuel system issue, faulty fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail can cause problems too..

another thing to check is jack each wheel up and see if it spins freely mine were almost impossible to spin by hand . the bakerlite pistons in the calipers are at an age where they are starting to bind. very common prob on au's according to my mate at ford and local brake dude. it really affected the economy of my xr8

I reckon the injectors have an issue or the TMAP sensor is chucking it in.

i'd be checking the fuel pressure regulator. there is apparently a common issue of the coating inside the fuel rail coming off and blocking the regulator, too much fuel pressure, too much fuel when the injectors fire.

next air filter probably, and o2 sensor if it hasn't been done for a while / at all...

O2 sensor in my opinion too. It is a critical in regards to combustion efficiency and therefore the economy rate.

What fuel is he running?!
I got 350 a tank when I 1st brought my car. Put 98 and it slowly got better now I get 470 a tank (with good driving)

I say check the O2 sensor aswell... Also do an "ECU Reset" while your at it...

sounds like my wife's car, has had new fuel pump, injectors reco, fuel reg, ox sensor, plugs ect, two full tunes 1 from profix( back 3 times) 1 from ultra tune, still blows black smoke. Even threw a carbon clean through it the other day. startin to think the only way im going to stop it is install lpg
