Default Free to air TV

Are we being dumbed down or what ? Is it just me or is there absolute crap on free to air TV. Thank God for the internet. I told my kids they could have one, but not the other. Either pay TV or the internet. Now I know there are adds starting to appear on Pay TV but seriously, every time I turn the box on there is another singing show or bloody x factor thingy on and some little pimple faced kid is going to be the next big thing.........And don't get me started on ACA or Today Tonight.......Get some amazing Doco's on SBS from time to time and not much else. And yes, I hate bloody cooking shows as well.......

Hahaha well yes you REALLY need to scan the TV guides on free to air to catch the good shows which are thinly scattered all over the place!

2 of the channels are just "infomercial" stations.. urgh!

Pay TV isn't much better to be honest, it's full of adverts as well, the programs are repeated over and over atleast 5 or 6 times a week(which aint bad if you miss your fav show), and the they are oft repeated month to month (I can't count the amount of times I've seen Megafactories Lego, Ikea, etc...). Sports package isn't too bad but some of the others aren't worth the coin.

Even free it is overpriced , I watch 4 Corners , Dateline and 7.30 Report and a few selected others and bugger all else on FTA . Channels 7 , 9 & 10 are purely aimed at the lowest common denominator and audiences with IQ's barely into double digits .

Yes and the beauty of the Internet is you can watch most shows that have been on for up to 4 weeks after they have been shown on free to air eg ABC IVIEW or get the shows early with no adds..........

Couldn't live without austar. Ads or not, there's always something on, and alternative viewing to free to air television. Movie channels and the showcase networks, it's all uninterrupted viewing.

pay tv is better?? I reme, ber when optus vision was the best option.. NO ADDS at all.. the FOXTEL came along and started filtering the adds in..
and whats the dealw ith getting all the foreign stations.. surely if they can feed me that crap then they can shut it down and replace it with the channels I want so Im not having to buy 4 different packages giving me 50 channels just so I can get the 5 channels I want to see..

Buggerlugs, I fully hear ya! I'm a bit behind the times and until recently just had a standard def set top box. Buy a HD TV they told me, enjoy! Now I've just half a dozen more channels of crud!

ABC and SBS are my saviour!

Why have we got two stations, one full of psychic hotlines and miracle weightloss machines and another with magic knives or cooking devices? Who watches this stuff? Who asked for it? Surely there wasn't some outcry from the general public "We don't get the chance to watch infomercials at 1am so give us a station with them on round the clock!". I will stick to renting DVDs from video ezy.

They need to get rid of all these stupid reality shows, big brother, xfactor, retarded idol etc and give us some good TV.

Re-runs of Star Trek & The Next Generation would be good, as three hours of TNG on a Thursday night just isn't enough.

Or here's a freaking thought - ANOTHER SERIES OF FIREFLY MAYBE???

Less reality, more decent Sci Fi.

free to air exciting news of new channels playing the same reapeats of shows made 30years ago that have been repeated yearly as longs as i can remember.
free to air is a joke, sports channel plays nothing exciting need at least 2 sport channels that would play the sport extreme game etc that don't get and air time.

theres a truck load of free to air channels now and most of it comes off pay TV any how, so I dont see the value of $50 + per month

if there is nothing on and we have time to watch somthing I'll iTunes a movie or 2,

Pay TV just gives you a greater selection of TV shows you don't want to watch.

Channel Bitorrent FTW

I haven't watch TV since the X-Files was canned....

Having said that, nothing really interests me on TV these days anyway. The Mrs watches Revenge and Greys Anatomy and I sometimes have a sticky beak.

Too busy either way... will catch up when I retire. By then, anything I wanted to see will be in the discount bin at a $2 shop ;)

My TV is connected to this PC. I haven't had an aerial hooked up to it for at least 7 years. The final straw was when I was recording House to a PVR and Big Brother ran long and I missed the last 15 minutes.

Later that night, went on the net, downloaded the episode and another couple of years worth of House since we were so far behind.

Today, any decent series anywhere in the world is downloadable an hour or two after being aired and all the commercials have been removed. I can watch TV when I want, without ads and it costs me $12/month in Usenet fees.

Last couple of hours I've grabbed;

The Ricky Gervais Show S03E13 HDTV x264
Undercover Stings S01E08 HDTV x264 KILLERS
Property Wars S01E01 HDTV x264 KILLERS
Jono and Ben At Ten S01E01 PDTV x264 FiHTV
Brand X With Russell Brand S01E03 HDTV x264 BAJSKORV
Wilfred US S02E04 HDTV x264 LOL
Anger Management S01E04 PROPER HDTV x264 2HD
Marco Pierre Whites Kitchen Wars S01E06 HDTV x264 FTP
Futurama S07E05 HDTV x264 2HD

Looking at the properties of my TV partition, I have 992GB worth of TV to watch. PayTV can suck it. ;)
