Default XR5 at Motor Show

We were at the Brisbane Motor Show today and saw the new XR5 aka turbo focus.

It is a cute car but I don't like the choice of a whole 5 or 6 colours - most of them the "boring" ones like black/blue.

The orange was ok but I'd not be prepared to pay an additional $1800+ for it.

the car looked the goods in the black, but yeah I agree about the disappointing color range. How did people find the seats? I found them quite comfortable, very suprising actually. I was generally impressed by the quality of the car.

Atleast you get more than one colour option this time unlike the ST170.

I had the joy of being able to tell the guys in the Lotus stand that because of the arrogance of one of their guys last year they missed out on a sale. We ended up buying a townhouse in airlie and the ute :

Was a bit upset coz the salesmen at the lamborghini stand weren't there coz Drew and I wanted to find out how much the new lamborghini was buying it from the factory (I did that with my old bmw - went & picked it up and drove it back to London).

Oh well off to the homeshow tomorrow :1syellow1

The sales manager at my local dealership told me they're getting one XR5 around April (already sold) and will be lucky to get another in 2006!

Well.. the XR5 is known as the ST model everywhere else in the world. If Ford Australia were to change the design and put in the round headlights, they'd have to make another bumper and lights. That would add costs and probably not make it as competitive against the other models.

Would any panel shop be able to respray the orange, after a prang ? The orange paint is a 3 step process at the factory in Germany.

Can certainly be done but the cost of the paint is going to be a killer, A contact in PPG (paint supplier) told me the new menace on the XR's is $700 for a 200ml Mix I certainly won't be doing any touch ups on them.

So the anser is yes it can be done but it will only be the prestige shops that will have the technology and the tinters to do such work.

yep and the extra $1800 for the orange.

Next car I'm getting is having a BORING colour - since the punkin has been in for 6 resprays and I don't think they've got the colour right but I've been told to drop it, that it will pass an inspection when I sell it

I think the Focus XR5/ST looks quite impressive since its donor car is rather bland and restrained. You Aussies should count yourselves lucky as New Zealand Focus enthusiasts have to go without the XR5/ST. Ford NZ seems to be on a performance model cull at the moment as it has killed off the Mondeo ST, ST220 and now the XR5.

The ST/ST220 didn't sell well as they were priced against XR6/XR6T, but it sucks alright.

Ford NZ's reply to my email asking if we are getting the XR5

Thanks for the email ******

While we have do not discuss future products publicly, we have been reviewing this model for introduction into New Zealand, and assessing the viability and demand for it. We are unable to comment further on this.

Hope this helps

yeah maybe thats their plan...... or maybe you need 100's of people to start flooding the Ford dealers asking about them, saying they want them...
you never know, that might make them get a few in, which will be a win win for you :
