Default NYE Coverage...

WTF, is it me or did the NYE Coverage this year just absolutely suck. That has got to be the worst pieces of TV I have ever witnessed...

Having 2 young boys You are limited to staying home so the TV goes on..what a pathetic mess.

I think ABC found the work experience kid & chucked him on with Ella Hooper.

She did OK, but he didn't seem to know what to do with the microphone.

Highlight was Peter Hellier on the 2016 Pub Quiz!

I don't know about the rest of the country, but Seven in Melbourne were broadcasting the local NYE shenanigans live from 11pm. I didn't watch so I don't know if it was much chop.

I didn't watch the coverage this year, instead I listened to a couple of albums with a big icy glass of fresh squeezed lemonade and vodka, and was in bed by 12.05. Happy new year to all

Every January 1st there's a flurry of newspaper articles & social media posts about ABC's NYE coverage (85% = crap, 15% = positive), it's almost an Aussie tradition now.

First time I've watched ABC Coverage...but it's been a few years since I've spent it before the TV.

I guess if it's crap every year, people will call them out every year.. .

Never liked large fireworks on TV.

Broadcast of fireworks always suck because of their soundtrack and by trying to cover everything from every angle. What we ended up seeing is a lot of smoke with techno pop and some fireworks. ABC presenters do get too excited sometimes but their coverage is not worse than any other.

Probably the best coverage of Sydney NY fireworks in my opinion was when Channel 9 covered it; The fireworks were at fewer locations and smaller; The broadcast actually had the sound of fireworks.

We recorded ABC broadcast and just popped out up the road to watch a local fireworks which was more than a km away and much smaller but was magnificent with perfect sound track – of fireworks’ own.

Happy New Year Everybody.

Cheers, George V

Fireworks have to he the biggest waste of money ever... They might as well be stacking a couple of mill in cash in the middle of the road and setting fire to it.

Joe public has a giant sook about a polli getting a free bottle of bubbly, or a lazy helicopter ride but this is fine....

Would love to see any many millions are spent around the world just on New Years. Dubai's looked nuts lol

Agree. They were good the first few times, because they were innovating, doing something fresh each year. Its just more of the same year after year. I think they should ditch the fireworks and switch it with the Vivid festival to change things up, or combine them in some way.... otherwise, just play a re-run fro last year, nobody would notice.

I totally forgot that it was NYE until one of my neighbours set off fireworks at midnight.

It made Hearts of Iron IV super immersive...

It always used to be on Channel 9...

I watched part of the pub quiz last NYE, but was watching a movie instead this time.
Ella Hooper still looked awkward, she didn't know what to do with her hands, and reading the autocue when introducing the 'music' acts was painful.

But the girl at the festival that she kept crossing to was even worse.

Eventually I muted the sound and put on some of my own music instead. It was much better.

The best vid i watched on new years eve , was a dude at about 12.30 on a music chanel . He said errrr Happy new year , you know new year doesn't exist right ? iT'S JUST MAN MADE BS . Theres just time and now . And it struck me that everything we celebrate is pure Fantasy made up Rubbish . I think i'm getting old , but i was happy at home in my little safety zone . I like going out with friends and celebrating nothing at all except the moment .
