Default Latest Mod!

So I decided to put a voltage gauge in. I realise that they may be an alert for ricer, but with the stereo I've got, and the amount of time I spend with the car off but the stereo on, I need to keep an eye on the voltage. I picked this gauge up for cheap and the colours go pretty well with the rest of the lights I've got in the car. Still have to get a pod for it, but the pod is going to be the same colour as the rubber mat surrounding the gauge. Let me know what you guys think!

Looking very good! Good to see someone else playing with the LS/LT interior a little.

Boost gauge next? _2:

haha Yeah boost gauge for sure ;).

Pods I'm thinking of making up a custom one to fill in that entire gap, wanna get a fuel pressure gauge as well, so it'll be two gauge pods, then relocate the auxiliary power input to the front of the box as well, so I don't lose it. Not that hard. Just a matter of getting the sizes right. I dare say the fuel pressure gauge is gonna be slightly more difficult to install than the voltage one, which was possibly the easiest install ever! Constant power (+12V) and ground (-12V) are taken from the power input, lighting is taken from the demister switch and the ignition voltage is taken from the remote wire for the amps . Easy as ya like! Except for the fact that the demister has 5 wires, 4 of which are green and black! So it took a bit of time to figure out which one I had to use!!

Would be nice, except you would have to cut out a big hole and in the dash to fit it :(. Plus 52mm gauges wouldn't fit either. Unless you just install the three gauges they have in the ST one (and change the boost gauge to read voltage!) Got me thinking now :eclipsee_

could it work?
has anyone tried to do anything with this set-up on a non-turbo focus?

the pods look a little too small to fit aftermarket guages like regan's

i like what you are thinking regan, this could work well!
i want something a little different tho as on my zetec i have the flip lid covering that empy space so i was thinking something along the lines of the XR5 guage pod

Yeah I was contemplating getting a ScanGaugeII, but decided against it. I know the backlighting is changeable, but I prefer the manual gauges, rather than digital ones, even though they only do one thing, rather than the 4000000000000 features the ScanGauge has!!

I finish uni in a few weeks so I'm looking at doing a fair bit of modification. Got some little rippers in the mail at the moment which I'm hoping to get by the end of the week and bang on by the weekend, which I am extremely excited about!! (It's exterior, not interior!).
Now it's just a matter of measuring up the ashtray area and designing something to slot in there nicely.

Already looked at them. I was gonna buy the ST instrument cluster from those guys, until it turned out that you can't actually use the cluster in any other car other than the one it comes from! Plus, he's overcharging like a mo-fo. Should only be charging about $300 for those gauges. That's why they've been up there for about 5 months!

And the other things shall remain a secret until it's all on the car. But watch this space! Pics will be coming soon!

just having the 3 guages in the pod from the XR5.
cutting a hole in the dash would be something that would be necessary for it to fit but damn it would look hot!
i wouldn't mind looking into it!

Yeah, would look alright. But there are bigger problems than just cutting a hole in the dash. That would probably be the easiest part. You've then got a few problems:

a) You don't have a turbo, so the boost gauge is pointless
b) There is no wiring there for the gauges
c) The gauges would be all electrical, and therefore would not contain the senders you need for the fuel and oil pressure gauges, rendering them useless.
d) You need to voltage test all the wires from each gauge to determine which wire does what, considering you have nothing to go off to test which wire does what. This part wouldn't be that hard, but would be extremely time consuming.

If you wanted the look, you're better off getting the gauges you want, then fibreglassing a custom pod with the gauges you want, cut a hole in the dash yourself, or get someone to do it, then install your own gauges. It would look better, function better, and be custom. Plus you wouldn't look like an XR5 try-hard

Change the guages contained in the pod with ones you want. Vac, Oil pressure, water temp, oil temp, gearbox oil temp.

RJO, did you think about doing a pillar mount? Would have given a nice ricer effect, and also some questions about whether or not your car has a turbo. Anyway, interesting set-up, and go the custom gauge pod to fill up the ash tray space!
