Default AU Classic - what are the differences?

So i've got my eye on a cheap AU1 Classic - what are the differences between them and a stock forte?
I know they're somewhere between that and a futura, being that they don't have rear power windows or an electric aerial, but they do seem to have cruise and 15" alloys - what else separates them from the AU1 forte's?

well mine had a stock electric aerial, the trim interior is nicer, kinda like the sr aswell, abs i think from memory, front elctrics, small rear spoiler, premium sound stereo mine had tape deck, grill, alloys, airbags pasenger and driver if different to standard im not sure there, but those are the ones i can think of so far if it helps mate.

ah rightey-o. well this thing might once have had an electric aerial, maybe it still does, i dunno. what does premium sound stereo get you? i notice they have a double height tape deck where a single height and a pocket usually goes in an au1 - did they come with a six-stack or something originally? or can you add one?

You can usually fit a dozen eggs nicely in the grill?

Id be surprised if they didn't get rear elec windows, cruise and some different fabric.

yeah the double sized tape deck is what i have, and the aerial should be electric , test by listening for a motor sound when stereo is on or take upper iner guard (left) off to see. Cd stack wasnt standard and can be added but i though about that idea and i think ill go a single instead due to they die those cd stackers ive heard.

Is this standard for the special editions. I have an LSD and sports suspension on my SR wagon. I thought LSD was optional, and suspension standard.

i'm pretty sure 3.08 is stock. i don't think they ever put a 3.08 lsd in an AU, did they?
any rate, when i get this thing up on the hoist i'll have a big yellow tag on the diff to see or not see.

All AU's, series 1 through to 3, whether they be 'standard', 'prestige' or 'premium sound' had double din sized head units from the factory.

If there's a single Din and pocket, it is aftermarket fitted !

FairmontPom, i can guarantee you that the AU1 forte base model pov pack did indeed have a single din unit, similar to an EL.

think you will find 99+ will be double din, AU 1.5 if you wish, they also got adj seat belts for dr/pas at the same time.

as for the classic, it was alloys 15", chrome exh outlet, badgeing, bobtail spoiler. AU 2 was cruise ctrl 16" alloys, duel airbags, bobtail spoiler and badgeing.. there were no AU3 classics just SR.

Yes you can get a double din in an AU1 - but an unoptioned AU1 forte right through to march 2000 had a single din as standard. I know, i pulled one out of my father-in-law's stock as a rock march 00 AU1 forte.

Wow, you're quite right, and i'm quite wrong. I always had the notion of futura = rear power windows, but obviously this only pertains to Series II and III

Well i had this AU Classic at the mechanics today - not terribly much to do to get it roadworthy, so yep, i'll have some pics of it soon.

I'll check the classic and report back!
