Exclamation Weird ticking sound coming from engine

Please can someone help me! There is this weird ticking type noise coming from the engine, originally when i start it up in the morning for the first few seconds it would make a ticking noise but then go away...now ive noticed it's getting more louder and more constant. When i accelerate the ticking gets louder but when i take my foot off the sound fades but you can still hear it just not as bad...my mechanic thought it was the pulleys rattling that was cauzing the problem with i originally told him about it, got them replaced this morning...140bucks later and it wasnt even the problem! Does anyone have any idea of what this noise would be?

Cheers!

Hdrolic valve lash adjusters , oil change usually helps (and filter) but find another brand until you have one that works , my ef tics for 5 seconds and then goes..

I've got the same issue, goes away when it's warm. I was told change the oil used in it. So ill find out in about 2000k's

It would appear you have an XR6, i thought OHC doesn't have lifters...

yep they do have the hydraulic lifters, and they will tick until they are filled with oil. if the oil is too think, it wont go into the little holes that allow it to fill up.
