Is it a manual or is it an Auto?

my apologies but your post isnt that well structered. so forgive me when i ask what mods does the car have?

If you have done the Extractors, bigger exhaust, intake as you have said i would suggest getting a bluefin or a SCT Xcalibrator from the US and getting the car tuned.

Also it depends on what year the Vectra is and what model it is.

Make sure it is running on 95RON or higher PULP and also try turning the aircon off?

Aren't the Focus' geared more towards handling than right out power? Maybe the specs are different?

Two questions:

What brand and style of extractors?

Auto or manual?

When you say "still kicks butt but no grunt", that sounds to me that it can get good speed, but has little torque.

If it's auto, and "too big" extractors, it might be a case of no lowdown torque, which means it could suffer in a "traffic light drag"

Sounds like your kiddo can't drive very well...

One of my best mates used to drive his Dad's MG-F convertible whenevr I was out. Let's just say he was more than surprised when a humble 2.0 Focus smoked him every time... realised he couldn't drive it properly, couldn't change gears and had no clue about the best spots to change. He was probably short shifting.

At the end of the day, the Focus is not about straight line speed. It may have not been run in well, the Vectra may also be a hottie. When I worked at a Dealership we had a manual Falcon XT V8 come in that drove almost as slow as a 6 cylinder. A few days of good solid hard driving on 98 RON fuel (thrashing) in the hands of a used car salesman to blow out the cobwebs and it ran almost as quickly as an XR8, it really liberated the performance.

LR's have a tendencey to run rich in the heat in Australia, especially with mods. A tune should liberate the performance an lean it out a bit, but there's only one real way to make an LR go fast. Forced induction.

Stick to what the Focus does best - handling.

Tough talk from someone with 6 posts.

Zetec probably knows more about the Focus than anyone else here, had a Focus Zetec well before most, and you'd do well to heed his advice.

His point is, you have to know how to drive a Zetec to get the most out of it. That's not saying your kid is a bad driver, but the way you drive a manual four makes a big difference to the way it performs.

At what rpm is he launching and shifting?

This should be interesting!!!!!

Bahahaha.. it's hilarious how people get so abrupt and defensive at the drop of a hat!

Zetec_R: Before you start ranting and raving and complaining because your focus can't beat another car you need to go back to english basics and learn how to construct a proper sentence which is understandable for others to read. maybe once this is possible people may take you a little more seriously and provide you some more informative information!

Good luck though!

edit: argh melbzetec beat me to it!!

Settle down mate, very defensive indeed. It is very easy to mistake sarcasm for insults on forums like these. I merely made the point that despite the car, not all drivers are equal and as Stephen points out, some cars have a very different driving style and require something more than redlining each gear. It's a common mistake to rev a Zetec out to redline expecting the best performance when peak power arrives at 5,500rpm on a 2.0 Zetec. Mods should liberate it to allow you to upchange closer to 6,000rpm but even then you can lose valuable time above that (cut-out it 6,800rpm on the 2.0 Zetec). When I ran a cat-back and K&N it charged a lot harder up high, subsequently allowing it to then pull higher in the next gear.

Apologies if you took my comment the wrong way. Those who've known me in the last 5 years know I'm slow to insult and very quick to offer the best advice I can.

As for my car, it's a company car that I didn't have a choice in the matter... I'm hardly complaining with a 5.4 litre Quad Cam 32v Boss V8 with 260kw, 6-speed auto and reverse sensors and a fuel card.... Would you be?

I miss my Focus very much, now in the loving hands of Sean (photn) and going strong at 110,000km, un-thrashed until he bought it, in mint condition and with many more years to come.

There'll be a MkII Escort RS2000 and an ST170 in the garage within 5 years. Both Manual.

That it is.. and i have Some really really impressive plans for the car myself.

Some good looks, some more, more more power, and some good handling.

Ok Zetec_R Just settle down a bit there ok.

And as to the reason you gave when you reported this thread, I think you need to think twice before making such comments like that about our valued memebrs again.

Try that again and you may not be around for long.
