Default New Dodge Charger

The new Charger was unveiled today and represents an interesting play.............

https://www.autoblog.com/article/202...harger-review/

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...inder-due-2025

The Charger now representing both coupe and sedan, the old coupe was named Challenger. The V8 and V6 engines are gone, replaced by the new Jeep inline 6 or an all-electric powertrain. It also seems that the ancient Mercedes platform has been retired for a new but bigger and heavier Stellantis platform.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the sedan, it looks too big and slab sided. The chiseled lines and flat surfacing suits the coupe better.

The above contrasts to Ford where they have kept an existing platform and engine lineup, giving the people what they want................a V8! And GM? Well, they threw in the towel. I doubt we will see these new Dodge models, but at least they have kept the nameplates alive. I think a Charger Coupe with the inline 6 would be a very nice piece of kit................it's been a while since an inline 6 Chrysler/Dodge has roamed the highways.

Looks like its the Dodge Charger from Wish.

Has an extremely weird profile/bulgey looking, also no V8 in this type of car? Why offer the I6 but no V8 option and instead an EV variation on an ICE platform?

This is why Stellantis and the rest of its horrid brands all struggle, they always destroy their own brands long established names/platforms and waste money on stupid shit like completely misreading their customer base.

I'm not sure this is common knowledge in Australia, but the hemi-V8 is basically dead. And that includes the RAM 1500, it too is losing the V8, the inline 6 its replacement.

Wasn't the Charger originally a 6?

Talk about not reading the room

When GM and Ford still have V8 engines in their offerings, its a hard sell for the flogs over at Stellantis.

I'm sure the inline 6 will be good, however its missing two cylinders.

Regardless of where the TT6 comes from, looking at the numbers it'll go pretty well also i reckon.

Also prefer the 2 door aswell, not as nice as older models but still not bad.

I prefer the look of the previous Challenger as well as the V8.
The old 6.1L was 317 kW / 569 Nm.
The 6.4L production engine used since 2011 was 350 kW / 637 Nm, later increased to 362 kW / 644 Nm in 2015.
The more recent 6.2L supercharged Hellcat engine is 527 kW / 881 Nm.
The higher of the two HO versions of the Stellantis I6 is 400 kW / 706 Nm so that's more power than the 6.4L it will replace in most and a lot more torque. No, it's not even close to as insane as the Hellcat engine and, somewhat surprisingly, they have sold a not insignificant 56,000+ Hellcat powered vesicles since 2015 - including nearly 1,700 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk for that quick trip to the Outback.
They don't make up a large percentage of sales. For example, since 2015, 323,000 Challengers have been sold of which just 6,000 have been Hellcat powered, some of which (like the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye) are going to be rarer than genuine GTHO Falcons in the future.

It’s going to be an interesting effort to sell into a market (Australia) that’s quite emotionally invested in big V8s.

There won't be too many v8s to choose from by the end of the year unless you want a truck. I think the Mustang will be the only one.

GM and Ford don't have any offerings at all in the 4 door space. Who cares about the 2 door, they're for people who are committed child free or whose kids are already adults.

Besides, some of us prefer I6 to V8

I like it, sedan and coupe.

The sedan is as close as we'll see to a 2024 Falcon with inline 6.

and in a Grand Wagoneer:

Hope it turns out to be a good donk. Should be available here eventually in the Grand Cherokee.

That’s probably why I love it so much.

But really, it’s a 2024 Valiant. Time to embrace my Western Suburbs ethnic heritage and get one.

Any word on whether Straya is getting it or not?

Is it PC to ask "where's Daisy"?
As to the car, to me it looks like the front nose has had surgery and we've caught it with the bandages off and it's still recovering from the swelling.

Love the look of it, would go I6TT instead of EV, would probably go sedan over the coupe. However, sadly i don't think we will be getting it over here.

The charger coupe would make a great 3rd brand in supercars, with a 5.7 hemi create motor shoved into it nose.

I suspect Dodge could have continued to sell the previous model for another decade and people would have still bought it. Let's face it, the whole "it's the last V8" thing has sold a LOT of cars over for a number of years now.

My guess is they have looked at what Ford have done with EcoBoost V6's in the F-Series and are trying to emulate that. Yes, Ford offer the 5.0 Coyote in the F-150 as a token gesture, but no one but you and I would actually buy it.

A few sound clips of the Hurricane twin-turbo Inline 6 -

First, this is an overview of the engine itself -

Engine torture test, sounds very harsh to me in this clip -

Keep in mind, these are in Jeeps, I would assume they will open it up for the Charger.

And a Hurrican vs the old nail -

The funny thing is, if you told me a decade ago that manufacturers would be moving back to inline 6's, I would have laughed at you. But Mercedes, JLR, Mazda and Stellantis/FCA/Whatever-they-call-themselves-next-week have all gone back to this fantastic layout.

It’s a hard No from me.
I’m just not ready to accept this rubbish while I can still drive to the servo and fill up the tank with actual petrol. They system wasn’t broken until they fixed it.

I’m not against EV or smaller engines or lower emissions.
What I am against is removing peoples choice.
Let the market decide.

Well that's what I love about this vehicle.

Exact same car - just with the option of high performance I6 Turbo Petrol or Electric. You actually do get the choice. I wouldn't buy an electric car either at this stage, it doesn't make sense for me given where I live and the sort of driving I do, and it doesn't have the same appeal on an emotional level.

Turbo I6 on the other hand? That definitely does tickle my fancy.

Imagine if Ford came out with the 2024 FH Falcon, with the option of Barra Turbo or high performance full electric drivetrain. EV enthusiasts could by the EV Falcon and Barra enthusiasts could by the I6T.

Wow, 2 Doors, Straight 6, Orange Colour, and a Charger Badge.
Just needs a modest black decal kit in the right areas giving homage to the Hemi265 E49

At least this Car Company isn't as narrow minded as Ford with the Maverick ect, and understand the need to build things in RHD to take advantage of the situation here.......................hang on a sec....
