a quick question.
The above car kept shutting down at random times. Both hot and cold temps. Speedo kept dropping in and out. Battery has been replaced, had the car on the diagnostics and found the speed shaft sensor to be faulty. This was replaced. so my question is, would the ecu report a fault on the speed sensor and shut the car down? is this sensor used to help determine A/F mixture so if its getting no signal it shuts down to prevent damage? thanks folks |

I have heard of similar events resulting from a damaged ECU (a little common according to the UK folk)

Well the symptoms were very similar to when my ecu failed on the ute (heat caused it to cut out) but not knowing if the ecu using the speedo as a measurement to adjust the A/F ratio. it doesnt get that signal, therefore shuts down.
Can anyone confirm this? |

Had my mate check it out and came up with the same faulty speed sensor so have bought a new one but haven't put it in yet as since he diagnoused it, it hasn't done it since  Has yours been good since replacing the speed sensor ? |

just a little update.
since having the sensor replaced the car has been fine. I guess that means it is directly linked to the ecu and caused the shut downs when its was not reading it. |

Sensor from ford $150 got mine through a mate for $110 which was gen ford part.

Best to have it on a hoist as it at the back sort of half way up the gearbox right near the exhaust so not real easy.
