Can any of you blokes tell me if the P6 and ZH are the exact same length or not?, I believe the LTD has a longer wheel base, does that mean it's longer overall?

Wheel base as I recall is measured from front to rear centre axles, not overall length, the long wheel base was for fair lanes, LTD and falcon wagons

P6 is longer in wheelbase and length

Yes, I understand that. Generally, cars with a longer wheel base have the added length in the body, but there seems to be conflicting specs for the P6 available on the net, hence my question.
Does anyone have access to factory literature with the specifications? |

pmacc has provided the answer in post 3
The first LTD's were in fact longer than their equivalent Fairlanes. ZJ/FC were the first to share wheelbase length. |

P6 from our Brochure section says, 5366mm Length and 3073mm Wheelbase

And the rear door , I had a p6 wreck for my zh and there is no way in hell a p6 rear for would fit in much wider like the roof and flour pan

If memory serves, the ZH used the wagon wheelbase and the P6 used it's own.
I had a P5 then a P6 Silver Monarch. Friends used to love me picking them up and riding in the back, they reckoned you could play tennis in the back there was so much legroom. Always wondered what happened to it, sold it to a Holden bloke who wanted to use it as a wedding car back in the early 90's. |

The P6 was that big you needed a guided tour around the 'facility' not a test drive. They were beautiful.. Haven't seen one for years though.
Remember the days when all the pollies used to travel around in them . P6 ,Silver Monarch , Marquis , and many other LTD variations , then the lovely old Fairlanes (many still look the goods) and then the Falcon based Fairmont Ghia and Fairmonts.. THEN the G6/G6E and G6E Turbo.. Bloody lovely. Don't know why but I always had a real soft spot for a really classy dark red XD Fairmont Ghia that was owned by a local communications technician. He sold it later on to buy a Telstar TX5 Ghia with the V6 2.5 litre engine I think. His Fairmont was 351 V8..Go figure.. Re the big ol LTD's and Fairlanes..bloody comfy spacious and well appointed in their day . Ford did a pretty good limo. Cheers Rod.. |

I used to see a little old lady driving a P6 LTD around town as her grocery car. I cant even begin to think how she managed to park the thing.
A very distinctive car produced at a time when nothing was impossible at Ford.

Went to look at a P6 today, beautiful car, too bad the A-pillars were beyond repair and the roof had rust.

u turn ??? were u turns even invented back then
when I did my lic back then I'm sure we were taught three point turns even tho the streets were wide enough you took a cut lunch to cross to the neighbour or just posted a letter

No, but I know someone who did one night, creased his front bar on a stobie pole whilst attempting a u turn and then killed two friends in a crash 2 minutes later as a result of cracking the ****s over the minor damage...
Poor old P6 finished up like a boomerang. It was a nightmare though....true story. |

If you have ever drove one you know what I mean. A friend of mine had a 1979 I think February built p6 town car. Maroon with black roof and cream leather interior. I drove that car many times. On a standard sized roundabout I needed full lock just to keep the front in my lane. I would not like to take it through a macas drive through. Very comfortable car and the did not rust out as much as falcons. Maybe because they were made in Brisbane??? Better build quality perhaps.

In the early 80s a guy at trade school grafted a P6 front end onto a XC Panel van.
