I couldn't find a link to an article; but I heard that the automative clubs are lobbying for a change so that special interest/concessional registration was altered to be in line with VIC; whereby the the vehicle could be used for a logged 90 days per year?
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

this sounds like an excellent idea and i hope it goes ahead. my olden holden is 30 next year and i'd love to put it on club rego and about 90 days a year is how often it gets driven.

I think its an absolutely top idea. Vic also has a 45 day pemit for half the cost of the 90 day. 45 days is about once a week which is all I would want to drive mine.
This will enable the vics to buid up a collection of their favourite cars and actualy be able to drive them all on their favourite piece of road it can only be good for the classic scene there. Sadly qld are only just starting to get the ball rolling, be prepared to wait about three years. |

Restrictions? I would have thought that the freedom of driving anywhere you want any time far outways any so called restriction such as filling out a logbook, or am I missing something here?

unless im mistaken, cars on club rego are already pretty restricted on when they can be used.. ie: club runs/events or to or from a place of repair?
the 90 day rule means you can drive it where and when you want to a maximum of 90 days per calendar year, log booked. |

Yep, 30 year rolling date...1981 this year, next year it's anything built in 1982. Which is handy seeing as how both our '82 Celica and the 253 V8 WB ute (yes, a goddamn Holden... ) we just bought for a project to do up are eligible next year, so the ute should be finished by then and ready for rego with the club we are joining.
At the moment the QLD club rego is restricted to a "15km radius of home for testing purposes", but you can travel any distance to attend a show, go on an official club run (but that can just mean you and a couple of other guys from the club), or any distance to get it serviced or repaired, as long as you can justify it. The cops don't mind historic rego as they know the people getting it aren't some "hoon" and the cars are better than average compared to most vehicles on the road and will be getting well looked after by a proud owner. I suppose 90 days log booked a year with no other restrictions would be OK...what's that, 1-3/4 days a week? As long as there's no kilometer restrictions and it's just a "how many days did you use it?" it should be a reasonable thing. That's where the true "restriction" would come in, if it was not only days but also a kilometer limit...that would knock a hole in the excited statements about "driving anywhere you liked at any time as long as it wasn't over 90 calender days a year"... |

In my case, and most other classic car owners I know, a km restriction parallel to our "restricted use" insurance would not be a problem. My insurance allows me to drive 6,000 kms per year but I'd be lucky to do 1000 kms. |

I reckon it would be far better. There are 52 weeks in a year and if you manage to take it out every weekend saturday and sunday this will bring it to roughly104 days. I am flat out taking it for a run once a week, If you use your car more than that you should probably not be on club rego anyway.
I say bring it on, the guys in our club are for it. |

If it is the 90 day scheme, I will definently rejoin a club and go on that rego scheme for my XY.. Cant see this as anything but WIN WIN.
For all the time Iv had the XY, Iv kept it on full rego because I wanted the option to drive it on anyday I wanted, and the current club rego scheme is crap, way to restrictive. Gee, 1k down to 200 or 300 = big WIN for me. 90 days would be more than ample for my usage needs.. Bring it on.. If this all goes thru, I am happy to give a big thanks to those who made it happen..

Yep would be fantastic. I was on club rego for years, it is so restrictive. Useless if on a sunday I wanted to drive out to my parents. 90days a year would be great. I just put it back on full rego and it will only be driven maybe twice a month but wanted to be able to drive where I like because I can't always get to club meets or afford the few hundred km's they go sometimes. Even 45 days would be better.

The good thing about club rego as it stands in Queensland is (and I'm not giving away state secrets here) that people can just hop in and drive thier classic whenever they like, as often as they like..."15km radius of home for testing purposes"? Yeah, right. I know...hmm..."I've heard of" people who have been driving old classics around for years on club rego, da in day out, to work and back, for all reasons.
They've never had a problem with the Plod and they also don't know anyone who's ever been fined for going outside the regs, because, as I said, they know they're well looked after cars that people care about and aren't going to act like idiots in. A logbook will include kilometers...it will have to. I could gaurantee it won't simply be "calender days"...it will be "90 days OR x-number of kilometers each year"... |

As I understand it the vic scheme has no mileage limits just 90 day or 45 day permit. You can drive for the whole 24 hours for 90 days or 45 days depending on which permit chosen.
However qld is a different place and the scheme here could well end up with a mileage limit or even not make any changes to the present scheme at all. |

I'm sure goAnna Blight will not make a simple 90 days, just the thought of keeping a log book is a PITA, i guess living in a small town and on SIVs rego works out well, most every place is within 15k's.
Although we did drive to Chryslers on the Murray earlier this year,on club rego and at $180/year is good value- i nearly make up for the difference in fuel costs any way! LOL |

My capri is not just for cruising and showing off and my favourite roads are over 15k away so its either full reg or a scheme such as vic has for me.
