"Toyota has spoken with U.S. officials about the prominent use of its vehicles by militants in Syria, Iraq and Libya.
Toyota trucks are conspicuous in extremist propaganda and are often what carry Islamic State group fighters into war with large caliber weapons affixed to truck beds. The company says it maintains "a strict policy to not sell vehicles to potential purchasers who may use or modify them for paramilitary or terrorist activities." The Treasury Department's Terrorism and Financial Intelligence wing monitors monetary transfers and the flow of goods that could aid militants, and an abundance of any company's product being used by extremists would draw attention. Yet such inquiries are often part of a more comprehensive look into how money and material flows in areas of strife where militants operate. Toyota released a statement that suggested just such an inquiry. "We are committed to complying fully with the laws and regulations of each country or region where we operate, and require our dealers and distributors to do the same," the company said. "We are supporting the U.S. Treasury Departments broader inquiry into international supply chains and the flow of capital and goods in the Middle East." The Treasury declined to comment Wednesday on any specific inquiry. "In line with our usual approach to understanding ISIL's financial and economic activities, we are working closely with foreign counterparts and stakeholders worldwide," the Treasury Department said in a printed statement, referring to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. While there are procedures in place to help prevent its products from being diverted for unauthorised military use, according to Toyota, the company says that it's impossible for it or any automaker to control the channels through which its vehicles can be misappropriated, stolen or resold by third parties." https://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/wh...W4tQVU-;_ylv=3

why do ISIS use Toyotas? Because there's **** loads of them around. I'm sure they don't buy them, they just take them when the previous owners no longer have a use for them

one of my neighbours had a 3 month old 79 cruiser that was stolen, the cops came and said 'no point searching, it will already be in a container' they would all have to be stolen but what authority over there would be game enough to stop them

How do they service them? Assuming they do,and can Toyota shut them down by satellite if they can identity offending vehicles?

Most vehicles used by these people are stolen in places like Australia, (Sydney south west metro is popular for this) and then they ship them to the middle east in containers.
I thought this was common knowledge, been going on for years. What do people think happens to all the stolen hilux utes??

Are you serious??
What do you think happens to these, they take them to the Toyota dealer for log book servicing and warranty repairs. They drive them till they blow up and get another one, most modern cars will easily do 50-100k KM without a service before they even think about giving up. I remember working with a guy who did over 60,000km without a service and car was still going strong.

Thats why Harley's used to be hot property for theft, they used to steal them in Australia, fill up a container and ship overseas and sell them. Then they used to refill the container in the other country with bikes stolen there and send it back, a mate of mine got sold a Harley stolen in the US through a Sydney Bike shop on Parramatta Road that is no longer there. Some time in the late 90's from memory they started a 'World Wide Harley Register' for stolen Harley's, stopped the Harley theft almost instantly.

Because when youre on your way to a beheading, you cant be late because of an unreliable 4x4.
But seriously, this is an unfortunate association for Toyota to have, and they really have no control over. Perhaps they should drive VWs because the emissions will kill you eventually.

Guy on the radio said that when customs / dock workers inspect containers they make sure that they cross reference the paperwork with the vehicle and that's it.
There is no connection with police / RMS / Insurance anything to see if it is reported as stolen. If that is true it is a bloody joke. No way they are shipping em out as plane cargo!
