But what sort of condition is it in? I'm having trouble selling my 99% rust free ZF Fairlane and they are probably more sought after than a CL/CM Valiant. Now if it was a Charger or Chrysler by Chrysler then I would be surprised. The earlier Val sedans are more collectable I think.

I've always had a soft spot for Valiants. On the weekend I was parked next to an elderly couple getting out of a dark maroon dusty Charger and when I pulled away he was looking at my car and I gave him the V signal and he gave me the most gentlemanly nod and smile. I was touched.

Valiants are great cars and very under-rated. I had a '75 VK. It crapped all over the XB/XC Falcons and HJ/X Holden taxis I was driving at the time. I only sold it because I got married and my 5'2" wife couldn't see over the bonnet very well.

Going by the headlight surrounds the Valiant pictured is a CM, last of the line.

Main places to look for rust are in the firewall, in the chassis rail near the steering box, and under the vinyl roof. Anything else that can go wrong with a Valiant is usually easily fixed. Hard to see how it can last so long at $700.

But DRHEMI it's the last 2 words in that second line that makes all the difference.

And by the way I'm not knocking Valiants either they're great cars. Had a Charger that went from 1 brother to the next (but never down to me unfortunately) and was in the family for about 10 years. The original brother who owned it ended up doing up the body and interior (he's a spray painter) and sold it for a nice sum, like 8 grand or something, a few years ago. And thats with a stuffed 265 under the bonnet and bad wiring. That was an early model (VJ maybe?? Not sure of the Val models but it was 72 or 73 I think) but had a CM Regal front end and later model tailights on it.

OMG, if that guy was like within 100lm of me ide make him an offer. Im sick of bieng here were all the classic cars from the 60's & 70's are bieng molested, by fags putting stupid looking chrome wheels, silly subwoofers and sound systems in them. I wish i was in victoria sometimes :(

I just bought a few parts for my drifter, from a regal complete for $350.

Its a shame that they are dying out and the one i bought a few bits and pieces off didnt have much to do to get it road worthy.

It had all the good gear too, but I'm happy.

Looking at the grille and bonnet emblem and wheels it would be a CM Regal SE the top of the line standard with power steer, windows, aircon, cloth or more likely leather seats, roof console. Could be the ELB is playing up, but easily replaced, mine with V8 and ELB gives about 14.5 to 15 litres per 100k on the open road, gas would be even cheaper to run

Only 'cos Chrysler Australia were too pig headed to play on a level field with Ford and Holden. They had access to some of the greatest V8 engines of the time and their best effort was a strangled 340 with single exhaust and 318 cam!!! A 340 SixPak with NewProcess 4-speed in a Charger sounds like a much better combo than a 265 with triple webers and a BW 4-speed ...

Got to see a few people here keen on old Valiants.

Thats one car i always wanted to buy but never did. I dont think there was a Valiant i didnt like.

Im a big fan of the VF Valiant hardtop (I think its a VF) as in the movie 'Wog Boy'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEDj5i5_LmI :

But your neighbour should really advertise it on Ebay as previously mentioned

OFfer him 500 or so. Then stick it on ebay yourself. you might turn a buck without having to even move the car.

IF it was anywhere near me I would buy it.
Didnt the CM regals have the little economy lights on the top of the front guards? Perhaps that was only the 6s

all CM's and the top models of CL's had the fuel pacer lights, basically an idiot light instead of a vacuum gauge, only comes on when vacuum drops below a certain level, if you know how you can have it not come on even at full throtle, its only an adjustment screw in the unit so you can set the sensativity.
Also looks like the grille has copped a push backwards in the big pic

Not so; my 1980 CM didn't have them. I think they were standard on CL only.

....but unfortunately from my experiences the CL and CM models did come with with a propensity to rust around both the front and rear windows and break front seat pivot bolts at inopportune moments. The hemi 6's were great engines though.
