Thumbs up I've recently joined Twitter

Until this last week I've never cared for Twitter and only ever saw tweets if they were embedded in other pages. Last week I created an account and will be paying the monthly $8 to verify my account is not a bot.

Anybody else recently join?

Yeah, I've used it for about 5 years and it's the fastest news. Now define news.

Just be careful who you follow.

A huge % of people are just posting for likes/followers etc.

And most of the '' good guys '' have been banned and swore never to come back regardless who bought it.

Just remember this. Beta males started it and an Alpha just procured it.

See a pattern?.

Read twitter for a bit of entertainment. You need to know how to sort the **** from the clay. Watch out for parody accounts.

I'm a bit of a fan of Elon, but I think he might have made a bad move taking over twitter. He is now accountable for moderating the contents posted on his platform, and if he doesn't, the regulators will get him. They have been trying to get at him for years and he may have just given them that opportunity.

The $8 fee is only relevant if you post, which I don't. Whilst it "might" get rid of bots, its also lowered the credibility (although old fogeys will tell you it didn't have any to begin with). Previously you had to be verified that you are who you say you are before you got the blue tick, now you can just buy it. Someone recently registered as Elon Musk, paid the $8, and got the blue tick, just to prove what a bad idea it was......they got suspended for it.

I joined Twitter once and found it was rubbish, so I deleted the account after a few weeks, but most annoying part was the email address I used for it was hacked months later as it was caused by someone trying to re-activate the account I had.
I would not trust their security and there is the possibility someone is or was using my old account.

Cheers

I'd get that sorted. It's tied to your phone number if I remember correctly. Anything posted will be assumed it's from you.

You should be able to reset that account using your phone as 2fa, then set a new password or use 2fa going forward.

My ISP provider had deleted my email account upon request, quite sure I never had mobile number tied to twitter as it was only used on PC.

One thing I did do when this happened I changed all my social media & forum email accounts and passwords. I have always been careful only giving limited information, but the problem is websites themselves are prone to hacking as demonstrated recently with Optus & Medicare, question is how many others have been hacked and not telling you or even better do not know.

Their senior IT security and compliance execs just walked. Fun times.

Self proclaimed Chief Twit is now requiring parody accounts to have "parody" in their name, not just their bio, fair move IMHO.

Latest silliness, the “Should I step down as head of Twitter?” poll has been a source of entertainment to me. Unless this is a cunning strategy to hand over the reins to certain interests, it has likely only succeeded for him by causing a spike in new members.

17.5m votes, 57% voted for him to step down

Just a bit of fun and games for Musk. In Nov he already tweeted that he is only acting in the CEO capacity, and was looking for someone to take over permanently.

He'll act as CEO for a few months then have someone replace him, just as he would have done if the votes said "Don't step down".

Would have been a hit to his ego though.

What's happened to Syndrome? Fallen down the twitter rabbit hole?

LOL!. I don't spend as much time as I used to on this forum now that the Falcon is no longer made and Ford Australia has become the Ranger Car Company.

Thinking of a used M340i as my next car so my Ford driving days are approaching their end.

Contrary to what people said at the time Elon took over Twitter X, it is still going. Love the community notes feature and will be applying to become a contributor.

How is Threads doing these days?

What a time to be alive

X is now the free speech platform of the world

It will help change the power structure of the world

Wanna argue about that? I CBF but if you sit back and watch you will see it on X

e.g. This morning an Epstein Island regular and Rapper had his two homes raided (simultaneously of course) and was arrested.

It’s all happening on X
