I was at Westfield today and seen one of those raffle thingos and there was a nice purple colour VE SV6 ute with a Z series badge on the front guard. I looked at it like WTF, what are they doing?
SSV, Z Series

I would assume it is based on the fact it is the last of the VE and they are following on from the Monaro CV8Z (i.e. last of the Monaros) nomenclature.

Z is fairly appropriate .... last letter in the alphabet .... as recently announced, (by GM, not Dowling), the last Commodore will be produced 2016, same as Falcon.

I find it somewhat ironic that in another thread everyone is up in arms about media negativity of locally built large cars, yet here is everyone bagging the crap out one.

We're not bagging the crap out of the car, only the unfortunate and reused "z" badging

The Z series is the same as the G6 Limited edition. They come with bigger rims and a couple of other upgrades.
I think they are just running out 2012 plated models. This has been around for a few months now. |

The first time I saw a GT Falcon with the "R Spec" badge on the back, I actually stopped and took a photo of it, laughing as I did so, and was within minutes of making a fool out of myself by posting it on here and making fun of someone "ricing up" a GT by getting a badge from the dress-up aisle at Supercheap...

My mistake of course...this was when the RSpec first came out, and I hadn't even heard about them, but because I own an old Celica and have an interest in Jap performance cars and get around meets of old Japanese stuff, I see some simply shocking "badge engineering" with people chucking truckloads of R-Spec and similar badges all over cars they simply don't belong on...when I saw an R-Spec badge on what appeared to be a GT Falcon in front of me in traffic (that had been striped up and badges stuck on the boot), I couldn't believe someone had done it.
To be honest, I still can't believe Ford did it... |

I drove a VE Sportwagon for the first time yesterday. The plastic inside is so cheap and thin that the whole centre console + gear lever surround flexed by at least 10mm when I prodded it with my finger. Maybe if Holden invested more time and effort into building solid cars they wouldn't be in the mess they're in and wouldn't need to bring out these stupid sticker packs to get people through the door.

OMFG,you cant be serious, a thread to hang crap on Holden for reusing the letter Z on its range of cars...slow news day hey.
I'll be honest and say i think the whole Rspec GT thing is a bigger joke, i associate Rspec with jap crap, not GT falcons. Rspec is a term used when you dont have the balls to call a GT with handling options exactly what it is, a GT-HO. My 2c. |

I didn't know but the all the Commodore variants are only being sold in Z-Series models only. I thought it was juat an add on like Commodore Omega International but apparently not. There's nothing wrong with the Z badge, gets people in the door I suppose.

At the end of the day, a VE is a far more solid car than a pos Lancer will ever be, so perhaps those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. By the way, I have a VE in the driveway at the moment and the centre console would be lucky to flex 2-3mm let alone 10, so perhaps you should think about your exaggerated crap before posting it. |

This is not a commodore or jap car bashing thread so don't turn it into that.
This is only about why holden chose to use the "z" and discussion surrounding what it stands for/where it came from. |
