Default Name that Engine bay

Hi All,

Can you make an educated guess as to what car (make/model) this engine bay is?

Reason I asked is it was advertised as a part of the photo line-up for a car that is for sale, but although the colour matches, nothing else does.
(So either he slipped in a wrong photo, intentionally or not, or he has upgraded everything after the other photos were taken, or ….

Waiting to hear back from the seller, but thought I would test the accumulated knowledge in here whilst I wait.

It is supposedly a Clevo (which looks correct) in a 74. However somebody mentioned that it appears to have a charcoal canister, which would make it 75?

Looks like Fred has a clevland and looks like a charcole canister.

the master cylinder (though looks to be a recent replacment) has a cast in resoviour which from memory finished in XB and XC got a plastic one

Looks late XB with the brake master cylinder and washer bottle location.

Pretty sure that washer bottle was late XB/early XC.

XB style brake master cylinder and charcoal canister together with the washer bottle says to me late XB, so could even be an early 1976 XB.

Nicely optioned with AC/PS (incorrect pump) and auto if it was a Falcon or Monty, could be a Fairlane or even a P5 or Landau?

Oh, and the air cleaner snorkel is pointing the wrong way

I'm actually going to go out on a limb and say XD/XE as the radiator is a cross flow and I don't remember them on XA/XB/XC models. I reckon it has the wrong air cleaner though for an XD/XE, but it does have the black rocker covers they had.

Carbon cannister appeared 10/74. Washer bottle has the pump and I believe the wiper motor still has the pump so the bottle has been retro fitted from a Late XB/XC. I would say its a 10/74 to mid 75 XB/ZG or P5 LTD/Landau.

Radiater/shroud and mounts are correct.

I think XD/XE had gas struts on bonnet or at least our '84 XE did....I think

XD onwards had the tags on the passenger side inner guard, not the plenum.

looks like it has power windows too, either a highly optioned falcon, or a LTD/Landau maybe.

EDIT: Brake proportion valve tells me either GT or LTD/Landau.

Ok, interesting those that picked it as a LTD or Landau. It is SUPPOSED to be a Landau.
This is the actual engine bay at the time some of the other photos were taken:

It has GAS, which is correct, but I can’t even tell if that is a Clevo?
The “first” photo looks newer, so I can’t tell if he’s rebuilt it, or if its from a different car??

that picture is definitely a clevo, thermostat is on the block and clevo rocker covers.

looks like the same engine bay, definitely a bit of time has gone by between the 2 photos.

As everyone has said I'd say its a late XB-XC style engine bay so would go with the Landau name tag. Definitely a cleveland engine.

my $$$ would be on that it is the same engine bay . a clevo powered XB era top line car ( fairmont, fairlain, ltd, landau ) so if they are saying landau i would believe that.

either the first photo was taken a long time ago before the gas was fitted or it is the more recent photo after a bit of effort has been made to clean up the bay. the air cond is missing in the first pic and i dont know if you would fit a gas system under the original air filter ? and the heater hoses dont appear to run to any gas system in the first pic.

is it suppost to have gas on it now?

It almost looks like 2 different engine bays in those photos.

The washer bottle appears to be missing on the LPG motor. The distributor is different, the coil is in a different location. I am not sure how the AC compressor is not fouling on the PS pump either.

The engine block has been painted in the first photo and not in the second.

If they are the same engine bay the second photo is the newer one, IMO

Brake booster looks the same. I personally would say it is a before and after shot of the engine bay. The first photo been the most recent. A couple of hours giving a good clean/degrease of the bay, paint the rocker covers, air cleaner etc will change its appearance somewhat.

same or not, they both have brake proportion valves, more than likely the same bay.

Have you asked him for more pics?

I am a bit confused...Which setup comes with the car? The first pic or the second pic?

If you look at the righthand side rear, you can see in pic 1 the brake line. In Pic 2 you can see where the brake line clip used to be...looks like the same engine bay to me but hard to tell from those pics.

Cheers
Col

I'm going to say they are different -

1. First pic has charcoal canister which looks unmolested.
2. Second pic appears to have washer bottle in the pre charcoal canister position.
3. A/C mounting bracket is different in second pic.
4. I can't see the clutch blanking plate in the second pic.

Yep,
Finally have the answer. The first shot(s) were incorrect. (they belong to a P5 that he also had.) he blames “the missus” for posting the wrong one originally.
