Default How was the Barra motor named?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Barra_engine
This wiki article says it was named after Rod Barrett. But my understanding is that Barrett didn't work for Ford until 2005? Before that he was with Coca Cola or something.
The Barra motors started coming out in 2002...

Barra was the codename for the BA Falcon, in a similar way to how Orion was the codename for the FG when it was being developed.

It's got nothing to do with Rod Barrett, I don't know who came up with that twaddle.

Like Dezza said 'Barra' was the codename for the BA Falcon program, a lot of original parts on BA Falcons will have 'Barra' stickers on them.

Great to know, cheers. So the BA development code name likely was inspired by that fish I see in so many of your fishing programmes on Discovery?
Someone should question that Wiki article, or whatever the heck you do when a Wiki article is incorrect?

I am thinking about it myself (knowing lots about fish..), and as the Engine is MADE in GEELONG, a local fish with lots of teeth found around the rip is in fact the BARRACOUTA.

Barramundi are from northern australia which is not were the engine is made. So perhaps BARRACOUTA it is?!
Barracuda are another northern australia waters fish with lots of teeth.

Just as a matter of trivia -

At the end of the local news here in Darwin we have a 30 sec catch of the day photo segment. Yesterday or the day before showed a picture of a guy who caught a 1 metre 40 centimetre (140cm) Barra in a local river.

Cheers Vincenzo

a kiwi sheep farmer / backyard enginner worked on the development of the engine, and the rest is history.

It was short for Barramundi. They were using a whole bunch of Australian animal names as codewords at the time. There was also Dingo, Brolga etc.
