Default welding/ecu???

i have to weld up a small hole on my exhaust and was wanting to know if you have to unplug the ecu before weldin?

just the battery, or i'm pretty sure most exhaust shops have a type of surge protector, the battery can blow up if you don't either disconnect it or put one of those on...the ecu doesn't usually have anything running in it when the car is off

The ECU has constant voltage as does the BEM I personally would disconnect both of the above as well as the battery just to be safe

once the battery is disconnected, the circuit to the ecu & bem is also. no need to unplug them.

You should always disconnect the battery before any electric welding on the car. Arcing across the alternator can destroy it.

agreed,you should also make sure your return lead (earth clamp) is making good contact with the piece your welding,and as close as possible,this way the current wont be running everywhere thru the vehicle.

in the ford manual it says disconnect negative battery lead.
