Default Monster Tacho?

Hey

Just at work bored, thinking about putting a silver faced Autometer monster tacho with shift light in the EB Ghia.. I can get one fairly cheap but not to sure if I should get it.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on Monster tachos and how they look in E Series inteiror?

Ive got standard EB GHia inteiror, 50/50 velour and leather, its that light grey colour.

personally think it would look pretty nice being silver faced and interior being a light grey interior.. Was just after a shift light, as car has no REV limiter and I always tend to REV past redline hehe :

Can you fit an MSD soft touch rev limiter to these?
I reckon if you do get a monsta (sic) tach you should also get a sticker for the back window which says: "My other car is a Nissan Skyline GTS....in my dreams."

Where would you put it? They look out of place on e-series...........

You can just buy the shift by itself..........

Rev limiter has been removed due to the unichip.

MSD tough rev limiters are expensive arent they?

No one puts a Autometer/Autogauge monster tacho in a skyline man..

What kind of money are we talking about to buy the Autometer/AutoGauge?

Yeh get one theyre awesome, but make sure you get one where you can change the color of the neon in it, to like pink/green/blue ;) Oh and dont forget to set the shift light properly, so when you cut it up it goes spacko in ur face, and illuminates the smoke... SIKKK!!!

can be functional and look good....
but before you buy one ask yourself

do the revs on your car climb that fast that you need a HUGE needle and
a blinding flash light to tell you to change gears....i dont think so
does your car even rev past 6000....doubt it
does your car spend most of its time at the drag strip...highly doubt it
does you car already have a taco...probably
do mainly w*nkers that dont need monster taco's have one.....

Not a bad checklist.

My car sits in the garage all week, only gets driven, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Rarely drive it on a week night, if I do its to get like dinner or something, 4km max Il do.

I want it more for the look, over the practicality of it. I reckon they look tough, and on a slammed 5L clean EB it will give it a different sort of a look.

Abu your Windsor would rev to around 6.2k (fuel cutout point), but won't make any more power after ~5k... so your std tacho would be fine ;) How about just getting a shift light on its own? "stockstandard" put a bright LED in his dash that worked off an RPM switch

EDIT ahh so it's just for "looks" :P I reckon you should hook up an oldschool alarm clock like this:

Yeah man I dont rev it much past 5000, sometimes I take it to 6, well I have but rarely. I originaly just wanted a shift light, but I always liked monster tacho's. I remember NEEDFORDSPEED had a 5" autogauge black face in his EA, loooked maddd.

I have seen stockstandard's LED shift light, pretty nice I reckon. Ive already bought a tacho, and will probably mount it and wire it up tonight, I just put this thread up to see what everyone else thinks!

Not that I really care what everyone else thinks, its just nice to see other peoples taste in things.. and it made my lunch break come WAY quicker!

Would it not be cheaper just to get the rev limiter put back in, even at a higher level than previously? Monster tach = $400 odd, and will make your car look crap, IMO.

I reckon no one over the age of 20 apprecites Monster Tacho's!.. I dont think I posted the price in this thread, but its $100, almost brand new, perfect condition.

I dont realy want it for performance, or to watch the revs, more for looks. :eclipsee_

Why even spend $100 then - if its just for looks why not just put in a phony gauge off an air compressor or something
