Default Another lucky escape....

When is the message going to sink in.....
Apparently the Learner was "the most sobber of the group" which is why he was driving...

Five youths who may have been skylarking were lucky to be alive after a car being driven by an L-plate driver slammed into a pole in Melbourne's east, police say.

Witnesses have told police the youths were skylarking in the car prior to the collision at the intersection of Taylors and Hull Roads in Mooroolbark at about 12.50am (AEDT) Saturday.

The impact snapped the pole.

The occupants included a female and four males, aged between 17 and 23.
The male L-plater was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry without a qualified driver, which is illegal, police said.

The female suffered a broken arm, one male injured his shoulder, one suffered head lacerations and one male was suffering shock.

The female was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital, while the four males - including the driver - were taken to Maroondah Hospital in nearby Ringwood for observation.

The driver will be interviewed by police in relation to driving offences.

Leading Senior Constable Ross Binion, of Mooroolbark Police, said the youths were extremely lucky no one was killed.

"It's disappointing to see the road safety message just doesn't seem to be getting through to some young drivers," he said.

In 2007, young people aged between 16 and 25 accounted for almost a third of the deaths on Victoria's roads.
The five had been at a friend's house in Croydon before the collision.

Sadly i probably agree...
I wonder what the road toll would be like if people actually obeyed the road laws..?

This is the most sobering stat:

"In 2007, young people aged between 16 and 25 accounted for almost a third of the deaths on Victoria's roads."

Personally i find it quite disturbing that anyone could be "indifferent" to this kind of behaviour....
I think as car enthusiasts we all have a responsibility to promote sensible compliance with the road rules and more importantly safe driving.

What are you doing about it? why do we sit on our hands waiting for someone else or the authorities to do something about it???
Then when they do something we all moan about it being unfair and unjust...
What better place to highlight these kinds of incidents and spotlight bad driving that a car Forum??? :

I just love the way that the media come up with this garbage. The pole in question was a galvanised steel street light designed with three elongated mounting points at the base, so it's designed to come down with a minimal amount of force.

Snapped a pole, yeah right.

Well, next time you’re there, take a picture. The news footage showed a steel one lying on the footpath.

Anyone here from Mooroolbark got a camera handy?

So he knocked down two poles? Wow. Funny the media didn’t pick up on this. Would have made a great headline.

Hey maybe more than 2 poles.. who knows, how did you think there was so much damage to the car and bad injuries?

But i think you're missing the point and hijacking the message somewhat don't you????

Another thread closed because it seems individuals are not prepared to provide a modicum of respect for their fellow members and instead insist in resorting to insults and tit for tat.
