Default The 'Best Kebab In Town' Thread

I hope this is not a silly topic...

I love a good kebab, its probably my favourite fast food.

Anyways, today I was on the road for work and I stopped in at the new Harrisdale Shopping Centre (south east of Perth) and spotted a new Kebab shop called "The Kebab Lads". Great looking store, really nice colours and authentic looking fitout. So I had to try a kebab... it was amazing! I'm not joking, it was the best kebab I've had in a while. They were also making fresh turkish bread, straight out of the oven, so I had to grab one of those also.

So, got me thinking... where abouts in each city can you find a great kebab?

Not so much a kebab but a souvo/gyros is my pick. There's a place in Melbourne (Airport West) called "The D's" and it is hands down the best souvo joint in Melbourne. Fresh lean lamb cooked on charcoal topped with fresh salads and gallons of tzatziki sauce

After a night on the grog when the munchies kick in, any kebab that stays down is a good kebab

There's a Greek joint on Keilor rd (I think north side opposite 7-11) that is supposed to be as good as that Kebab van you guys speak of - But he has weird hours, like only opened 3-4 days a week.

There use to be one called Gyro's in High St Thornbury in the late 70's & 80's also cooked over the coals, been a long time since I use to have the old souvo's!

Used to Love Char Char Yiro's in Boundary Street West End.. Bloody fantastic but they have apparently closed down now..

My old favourite though was in New Farm on Brunswick street in the same complex as Pizza Hut and Nightowl.. Seemed to be open all the time and the kebab's where always top shelf... Its been a while since ive been so not sure if still their but worth a look if your in the area..

Both of the Above are in Brisbane

My favorite is Star Kabab in Richmond NSW, Ive been going there since leaving $1 drinks on a Thursday night / Friday morning at Samantha's in 1990 their chips are crap but their kababs rock, what sucks **** is the local fun police have forced them to close at 10;30 on a Thursday night and midnight Friday and Saturday

I might be getting old but there is NO better kebab than one at 3:30am with a belly full of bitter

Another good one is on the highway at Albian Park in the carpark of the ethanol servo

Awesome idea for a thread Pepscobra

In Perth, Peters by the Sea at Scarbs.
For a burger in Perth, can't beat Alfreds Kitchen in Guildford, with Pea n Ham soup.

Check their Facebook page before you make the trip:

https://www.facebook.com/The-Ds-souv...95462/?fref=ts

They used to be open 6 days a week when they first started, 11AM-3AM in the morning now they're only open a few days a week and barely any little hours of the morning anymore :(

If anyone happens to be in Sunbury, there is a little kebab van called 'Kebabish', its not the best Kebab I've ever had but for Sunbury it goes pretty good, draws a bit of a crowd too, they had a car meet there a few weeks back:

https://www.facebook.com/Kebabish-42...43396/?fref=ts

Its on Horne Street, opposite Big W/Safeway/Cinemas.

Jumbo Kebabs Mitcham. Started in a caravan at a disused servo, now has 3 or 4 permanent stores from memory, around Ringwood and Doncaster area.

I can't imagine how it could be any better. Beats the hell out of anything we have locally. I look forward to going to the big smoke just to go there.

The last few times I've been there, the food was bordering on inedible. There's a place two doors down on Lonsdale St that is heaps better.

What I hate about any Kebab/souv joint is the timing.Try and get in before the queue, or wait till their gone. (extremely hard to do when straight let alone when you're hammered). WHAT you want is the first shave - the meat has a nice bark on the outside (especially cooked on coals) and juicy underneath.

Hard to find good kebabs on the Sunshine Coast but Phoenix Kebabs at Mooloolaba (under Mantra hotel) is pretty good.

Beef, onion, tomato, tabouli, cheese, with combination of garlic and hot chilli sauce - terrific.

Depends on where you live, any Kebab shop in Bankstown is pretty hard to beat.

But Sydney Star Kebab on Marion Street Bankstown are up there with the best of them, and probably the best hot chips and garlic sauce I have ever tasted.

Just don't get shot or robbed when you go there.
