I'm guessing air filter, might have been a backfire with one of the oiled type.

Says he went to start it and heard two bangs then smoke and flames came out under the bonnet. It needed the Fire Trucks to put it out.

I think he had lines there going to the turbo-charger.

Won't matter as he didn't have the car insured which I find not a wise move.

on the outside it doesn,t look to hard to fix, hopefully no panel warping. but he should at least protect it from rusting.

Did cover the Holden badge with an SS Badge though.

What is it about the Lion that Holden owners find it so necessary to cover up?

Not much external damage to it anyway, nothing a half an hour at the wreckers wouldn't buy your way out of followed by a respray and blend of the nose.

It would be interesting to see under the bonnet.

I reckon it's good insurance having one of those little dry powder extinguisher s mounted in the boot instead of watching your pride and joy burn to the ground

I'd cover or replace my badge too if it sported a lame lion in a limp wristed pose. Nothing remotely Australian about a lion, when's the last time you seen an Australian lion in the wild ?

Problem is if you are trapped in the car and a fire breaks out. You cannot reach it in the boot.

For a track day, Kypez told me to mount an extinguisher using 2 hose metal clips round the front passenger seat lever that slides the seat.

I had a leather glove in the shed, cut off 2 strips to surround the metal black front seat lever rod to prevent scratches, and clamped the fire extinguisher bracket over the seat rod lever using the leather strips as protection.

After the trackday I have left the extinguisher there, does not get in the way of passengers, can still slide seat backwards/forwards, and gives me added comfort that if I am trapped and a fire breaks out I have access to an extinguisher.

I had to google this, found there is an extinct Australian Marsupial Lion which sounded pretty tough.

The Chev badge is too American and not relevant to an Australian Holden, and the SS badge is very... German
