Default XR8 Wierd Problem

Hi all got a weird one, my au2 xr8 200kw ute is making a scraping/squealing noise from what seems the rear of the motor when you try to accelerate when the motors cold. At the same time as the scraping noise the motor cuts out which makes you back off and it then instantly comes back to life as normal. Once its completely warmed up its fine. You would swear the flywheel was scraping but what's the cut out cause.????

Checked the cps and found oil in the sensor housing and a fair amount of side play, amazing how much noise it can make. While on the subject can any power/economy gains be made from moving the cps forward or back a bit. Has anyone tried this?

Don't worry guys, just read the cps just tells the computer if #1 is on the compression or exhaust stroke, mostly for start up ,moving it makes no difference. Google does it again!

No personal experience with the Dorman product. Hope it works ok for you. Just an FYI, when you are fitting your replacement, you have to be TDC on your compression stroke. Your cam sync which is driven off the cam turns at half the rate of your crank.

Before you pull your old sync, take the plastic cap off, turn your crank to where the solitary finger is going past the sensor in the plastic cap. That way you know your on the correct stroke of TDC. Here is what it looks like with the cap removed at the correct TDC (apologies for the state of the rest of the engine, but you can at least see No 1 is TDC):

Hope that helps.

Cheers
Stu
