Default One for the Cricket fans...

Do you think ricky ponting should be captain of Aus? in my view, Gilchrist would make a much better captain and could easily handle the pressure of W/K/Batsmen/Capt.

just seeing some of Ponting's decisions on his field placings while playing the ashes was a bit worrying. any thoughts?

nah i dont think so...as a wicketkeeper gilly has a ton of responsibility anywayz. Its important for australia that hes concentrating all the time...be it in the field as a wicketkeeper, or as a batsman. The captaincy would place even more pressure on him. Plus gilly is 33 i think, so making him captain would be a step backwards.

Australia lost the ashes...simply because of injuries and more importantly they finally faced a team that had good pace bowlers. Shoaib akhtar is fast...but he bowls rubbish 4 out of 6 deliveries...the english bowlers stuck to their plans, and australia didnt respond as a team, it wasnt just the captaincy.

Wasn't a fan of ponting as captain last year, and it wasn't his fault Australia lost the Ashes.

Nice to see Hussey is getting a go, he is a good player.

gilly is easily the most likable australian cricketer, plays with a ton of integrity and to top it off...hes an awesome cricketer. And yes i too am happy that hussey is finally getting a go..shame it took so long for him to get a chance, it should have always been him instead of lehmann, in the test team at least.

yeah hopefully hussey does alright up the top with hayden. one would think langer's spot is pretty safe once he is fit to play?? even if hussey makes runs?

Langer will come straight back into the team as soon as he if fit. Even if hussey was to reset the test world record score...come the 2nd test the opening partnership would revert back to hayden n langer. But truth be told..im not that keen on hayden anymore...dont know if its focus, or just an extended bad patch...but he doesnt look like the bully he was before...hehe.

Punter has been a good captain. Fair enough aussie cricket has seen some rough times and ricky lost his way in the UK but there has been nothing inherently wrong with the captaincy.

Its very australian to turn on the captain following a few poor performances.

SKW would make a good captain, he has a brilliant cricketing mind and is an incredible bowler - but this is the extent of shane's talents. The man is a moron.

I was of the same mind but I just saw that Hayden (even with the bad run) still is in the top 10 runs made all year. POS #9 at 742 runs (something like that). Not bad for not making much in England

SKWarner has the best cricketing mind in the game today, should have been captain before pointing. Who cares what he does in his spare time, and dont lecture me on that "rollmodel" crap

agrred walkinshaw, what he does off the field should not affect anything to do with his cricket career, but i guess thats just what happens ey'. good to see punter make a tonne though. cant believe how slow the windies were on their over rates! theyre so casual about it all.

I am happy with Ponting being captain. He has the knowledge and ability to become a great captain. Just needs to strengthen up some decision making.

Let me tell you all about cricket. WHAT IS CRICKET?

Cricket is quite simple. You have two sides-Ours and Theirs-One out in the field and one in.
Each man in the side that's in, goes out-when he is out- he comes in-then the next man goes in-until he is out-the side that has been in the field comes in-and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get out those coming in-sometimes you get men still in and not out-then when both sides have been in and got out-including not out's-that's the end of the game.
It's really quite simple.
Now you know all about CRICKET.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Oh Monty, you are a stupid stupid man. Read it again, makes perfect sense to me.
By the way the husbands office looks straight over the Gabba, he has been watching the cricket in his airconditioned room.Does that make you cricket fans jealous?

I find it amazing that Ponting has had a succsesful career as a player and a captain, loses 1 series and everybody calls for his head. Did everybody call him a fantastic captain last year when Australia won its first series in 25 years in the sub continent. NO, they did not. The mark of a good captain in sport and in business as well, is somebody who leads by taking advice from his vice captain as well as his experienced people, which Ponting does. Its called BRAINSTORMING. More ideas, better outcomes = Good Leadership.

Well, not too many people were congratulating him as captain in India simply because he only played in one match, and we lost that one.
