Default bloody spiders!

was driving in the city earlier, on a fairly busy road, when i looked in my rear veiw mirror and saw a huntsman on my rear headrest....
i hate spiders... not scared of them, just not a big fan...
there was no where to pull over for about a kilometre, so i drove with one eye on the road and one on my mirror till i could pull over.
as soon as i stopped, i opened all the doors (in the rain) and grabbed a towel from the back seat. i tried to flick him out the door, but he jumped to the floor and ran under my driver's seat. bugger. i couldn't find anything to get under there with to push him out, so i looked in the boot, and found a can of insect repellant that was left there from a recent trip to the beach.
so i emptied almost the complete contents of the can under my seat.

about 30 seconds later a very dazed and depressed looking spider wandered out from under my seat, over my sill, and fell to the ground. i didn't kill it, i figured being covered in bug repellant was bad enough......
and the rain will get most of it off.

thats the second time i've had a huntsman in mar car (that i know of)

the first time i had only been in oz for two weeks, i was in my xb wagon, and a hunstman ran across the inside of my windscreen....
being from NZ i had never seen such a large spider. i was on the phone to my mrs at the time, (handsfree phone), she had no idea what was goin on as i was yelling like a crazy person lol.... (she was still in nz, and also had never experienced a huntsman, so had no idea what the fuss was about)

i bet you thought this was gonna be an interesting thread lol......

Ugh, hate them... creepy ugly scary things. I think we had a thread on this a while ago now. But that's ok, I like to hear spider stories. Freak out all the overseas visitors to ffau

The one I remember the most is we were sitting at a red light in Carlingford (Sydney) waiting to turn right. Hubby was driving and we were in the XF. Suddenly through the open window a huntsman blows in, lands on hubby's lap. Before I got a chance to scream and jump out of the car quicksmart, hubby looks down, makes this kinda "Urrrrgh!" noise, picks up the spider and chucks it back out the window. We were jumpy for a few ks after that.

ahh spider stories..

Here is mine
I was driving close to home when my mate calmly asks me to pull over. I turned towards him and saw the solemn look on his face.. Thinking he was sick or something I pull over and stopped the car. I asked him if he was alright as he got out the car.

The cheeky bugger said he was fine but there was a big huntsman on my shoulder.. I sort of peered down towards my left shoulder and all I could see was this hairy dirty arachnid leg waving in the air.. FFS I knew what it was attached to and was frozen solid.. haha without trying to move at all, I told my mate to get back in and try and flick it off for me.. When I see the coward standing at the front of the car looking over the bonnet in thru the windscreen at me..He couldn't of been further away in a second if he was Carl Bloody Lewis.. I didn't want to yell, for some odd reason I thought yelling would mean I would have to move..

Time was standing still, the whole time this spidie continued to wave an arm around, like I needed reminding he was there. To cut the story short, I slowly undid the seat belt, flicked the spider off and did a drive roll out the door onto the road and ran 5 mtrs up the street failing my arms around like a school girl.. After about a minute of trying to get my heart rate under 150 beats per min we decided we better try and see where he was. We (I) gingerly pulled the whole car apart on the side of the road trying to find him but alas he was no where to be seen. Thank god for small mercies because in hindsight wtf I would of done if I'd found him still boggles the mind.

AFter walking home, yep thats right, i left the car there and walked haha.. I returned with one of those roach bombs.. I let that baby go off in the car and waitied until the next day to go and get my car. There was no dead spidie in plain view but he was never seen again

THE HUNTSMAN: spray him with as much incecticide as you like but it wont hurt him, he closes the pores of his skin as defence. if his reaction is too slow he may get a little dazed but he wont die.
His size is worse than his bite, they may make you nausius but no harm really.
If i was you i would take more defensive steps if you get a wolf or funnelweb as they will chase you and kill you if you dont get treatment fairly quick......
Snakes scare me more than spiders and we got heaps of them up here...

Keep a can of deo and a lighter handy. Fry the bastards! They die instantly. I don't care whether it's a huntsman or daddy long legs they get blown to hell.

my spider story.
every year i go up to creasant hd 4 a week or 2 and set up camp about 15kms south CH.
its in summer so it gets pretty hot and humid so i normally leave the windows down during the day and night,as long as im close to the car.

Anyways,on a return trip from a succesfull nights fishing i noticed something move to my left,i wacked on the interior light and low and behold its a dinner plate size huntsman and was moving around the dash towards me,being on a dirt road,i pulled the car up as quick as possible (leaving the int light on) watching its every move it ended up behind the steering wheel just as i stopped.I looked at the bastard and then got rid of it ASAP.

it gave the heart a good start anyways, and i now close the windows.

I have a large spider phobia ! If i see one I can only relax when its well and truely dead ! I was driving along the freeway to Ballarat once in my show XB wagon once in a convoy of about 20 cars on a cruise, when a huntsman ran across the windscreen on the inside! No one knew an XB wagon could stop that fast ! It ran under the dash and I was ready to give my car to anyone who wanted it at that stage ! I ended up riding in another car for the rest of the trip and my girlfreind drove my car the rest of the way cause we couldnt find it !

Took nearly a week to find that sucker and exterminate him ! I bought about 20 cans of baygon and turned my garage into a spider free zone !

I know a girl who's parents told her that whenever she saw a spider, there were usually two more around somewhere, as they "travelled" in threes.

As soon as she saw one she would be in a constant state of panic until another two were found and killed. Of course that usually took weeks.

Pretty slack, when they knew she was (and still is) scared of them, but her Dad thought it was the greatest joke.

And no, it's not me. I don't like spiders (or roaches), but I'm not that bad.

lol...still chuckling at Racecrafts dive roll out of the car....

It's funny how you can be working on something and not care, yet once you see one of the buggers everything gets turned over, lifted up, checked, and double checked till you're done

I remember walking through a paddock to get to a mates joint when i was about 7 or so and a brown snake was slithering down a shed wall and peering at me walking past. I was off, I ran like the lightening down the hill, did a huge jump over a fence all while holding my bum in case he took a swipe...lol

This looks like an awesome opportunity to pour some scorn on Neeek.

Many moons ago, he and I were just walking in to a party, and he steps neatly in to a BIG spiders web, containing a BIG (but harmless) spider.

Nick freezes, his face goes white and he says, very quietly...

"oh no."

It's hard to explain, but that wasn't "oh no, I've got a spider on me", it was more like

"oh no, I've got a spider on me, and I'm about to either scream or pass out or throw up and I don't know how to react so just do something right now please please please

It was hard to know whether to just stand back and hope he'd do something seriously amusing, or to rush in and help. Unfortunately, I locked in B and knocked it off his shoulder and flattened it with a size 13 Blunnie before he had a chance to do anything...

People are scared of funny things...

It hasn't happened for a while, but at one stage it seemed that if a spider built a web across a pathway, I would find it - with my face!

Maybe I was just always the first tall person to go that particular way that particular morning!

I did 4 runs to the dump on Saturday with various unwanted lifeforms from my back yard. On the final run, my mate sitting next to me, went silent, calmly asked me to stop the car, then backhanded me. Fortunately for both of us, the backhand was directed at the garden orb on my shoulder. Gave me a fright. Scariest bit was not killing the spider, knowing it decided to hide under the driver's seat.

I had an encounter with a spider last night. I just hate spiders, they're so creepy and fast and can hide almost anywhere. The only good spider is a dead spider IMO!!!

Anyways, I was walking from bathroom to the kitchen and it was pretty dark (only had one light on) and as I was turning into the kitchen I noticed something dark moving along the ground under where my foot was. Lucky I saw it otherwise I would have had spider guts on the sole of my foot : . My foot just skimmed the top of it and when I realised what it was I ran for the insect spray like a little girl :O.

I sprayed it and everywhere around it with this barrier spray, but it disappeared under a cabinet, so I gave that a good blast too!

And for good measure, I'll pour some scorn on myself, citing a different arachid incident...

So there I was, driving my old ZK Fairlane over the Harbour Bridge in Sydney and just as I'm pulling up to the toll booth, the ONE moment where I have no choice but to drop the window to throw money at someone, and I spy on the bonnet 8 legs scurrying across from one side to the other, fortunatly from right to left. I pay my money, window goes up FAST and I'm tootling down the road again thinking "nah, I imagined it".

But I didn't. Oh no. Said spidy (a rather large huntsman about the size of my hand) decided to park itself in the back window going down George Street. I saw it, and then spent a frantic few seconds looking around the car to see where it had gone this time. Those buggers move fast...

Just when I think it's all going to be OK and spidy could well've fallen off, I glance over to the door mirror to have a look behind me and *BANG* - there it is, attached to the outside of the driver's window. Panic ensued, and it was all I could do to keep the car in a straight line going down one of Sydney's busiest streets up towards Broadway. I'm still surprised I didn't collide with anything.

From that moment on, I drove like a man possessed to my mates house in the southern suburbs, shutting all the air vents in the car, making sure that all windows were closed and checking all mirrors every 0.3 seconds.

When I finally got there, I called my mate to come out to my car, parked in my street. There was no way in hell I was going to open the door with that thing running around. So he finds the spider, sweeps it off my bonnet with a flick of his hand, and tells me to stop being a baby and come inside for a beer.

I think spiders are great - they eat insects and things. Just as long as they keep their distance from me, because I'm not sure I've got enough clean underpants to continue these upsetting encounters...

Hhaahah these stories crack me up. Racecraft that was gold!

I am a firm nancy-boy when it comes to huntsmans and have been known to run like a little girl as well.

The most recent encounter the bastard was waiting for me when I got home from work about 12am. Of course I was coming in the back of the house (dimly lit) and as I step inside it sort of skims my shoulder and I am flicking around flailing my arms up and down. They can't live within 10 metres of my house I'm afraid.

prob best story i have is one that has nothing to do with me but my mum.
Dad and mum were going out someplace a couple of years ago, so mum digs right down intot the bottom of her wardrobe to find a real nice pair of pants. So she tries them on and comments that she feels something crawling up her leg. So she at first slowly takes them off then when she notices that its a HUGE huntsman she rips them off as faster than a hooker on speed and proceeds to run outside while dad squishes the spider to death inside the pants, funny as hell.
But the funniest thing about spiders has to be when a group of tough nut teenagers are seen running screaming from a car that has a spider inside it

Wolf spiders are mostly harmless to humans...

Edit: So you've got a mate who's studying entamology and you ask him about wolf spiders 'cause you thought they were harmless... The Brainiac sends me a link to a US website which claims just that... After I post, he sends the correct link identifying them as venomous but not lethal...
http://www.termite.com/spider-identification.html

I could've googled the spider chart myself... Education, it really can be dangerous...

A bloke I used to work with was terrified of spiders.

He was pulling up to a set of lights when an (reportedly) huge huntsman climbed out from between the instrument cluster and the steering column. And walked straight towards him onto the steering wheel.

As he had almost stopped he simply opened the door and leaped out of the car...

It smashed into the back of the car in front, and this furious woman got out and started screaming at him " what the hells the matter with you, stupid &^$#@....etc"

When she fininshed, he said there was a huge spider on his steering wheel.

And she crapped herself, leapt back and said "oh no, where....you poor thing"

And said neither of them went near the cars untill the tow truck driver came.

yes, aerosol filled cans and lighters go together really well when it comes to spiders and not-too-nice bugs....

i was stripping an xc i bought back from out in the country a while back in my garage. i saw the spider egg-sacks but kept forgetting to do anything about them...
till there were millions of baby redbacks crawling over everything. the floor still has burn marks on it lol....
i only removed the engine and trans from that car, i refused to get in it to get the gxl dash etc out of it.

glad to see i'm not the only sook when it comes to spiders.
