Sort of thing FC might have an opinion about...
Putting theory out the window. Chap is offering for $60, a Century 57MF battery that would fit the Falcon, with Supercrap install sticker dated 10/18. In his (paraphrased) words, been in a garage on a wooden shelf, needs charging. How likely is it, this would come back to any usable life? Noting the brand. New, they’re on special for $155 at aforementioned shop. But that’s a $95 difference... |

I would still buy a new one, you would think he would charge himself and sell it as is.
I had a new small 12V willow in the diesel genset I left to long and re charge it last week but I don't know if it will recover fully, time will tell.

Thanks for the thread,
just reminded me to order a couple more N150 Centuries. Pick them up tomorrow if I'm allowed across the border.

So if it came down to new Century vs new Exide, which would be the hit pick?

Century (anything blue and yellow case) is Australian made in Brisbane. One of the DIN range is also Australian made, the one that goes into the diesel Territory. I was a Century stockist at my workshop,I used to sell Century 57EF MF for $150 inc GST a couple of years back, it got to the point where I smashed the region record in the past 15 years for most Century battery sales and I was second only to Bendigo Super Cheap Auto. If I wasn't going to push Australian made I'd have stocked ACDelco as they are good. Don't buy it second hand, buy new. EDIT: A couple of years back is actually 5 years ago, wow time flies lol. Thats kind of funny. Years ago the ex mrss car had a dead battery. I went to the battery place work use for work cars, told them the car etc. The bloke slaps a blank battery on the counter and asks what brand i want and listed 3 or 4. I asked which is better, and price. He said theyre the same. I said exide so he grabs a sticker from under the counter and slaps an exide sticker on the side. Im guessing had i not been using a trade discount the sales pitch would have been different. Car was a 2012 g6 ecoboost. The battery was fine. Just funny the lax attitude from the guy behind the counter.

Would it be fair to assume that if the battery voltage drops below 12 or even down to 10 volts when starting your engine, the battery is on its way out or totally stuffed. Said battery was charged before hand. |

They are glass matt 11 platers which are perfect in a solar system, RV and boats, I get 10-12 years from them usually in a RAP system. Only problem is their size and weight.

This is what I used to use, I was suspect on those digital ones. https://www.ebay.com.au/p/4017006497?iid=163026666315 Something to keep in mind is you'll blow holes in the commutator on a starter motor if you insist on trying to get every last drop out of a battery, when you first get that slow turn over when she's getting tired it's time for replacement battery. I've seen it a few times on starters where the copper on the commutator has holes in it where the brushes sit - that's from trying to start on a flat or tired battery. It's easier and cheaper replacing batteries than starter motors |

The bottom left are N120s and the low profile ones next to them are oddballs called 94 Squat - they're used on Scania prime movers. https://www.centurybatteries.com.au/...attery/94/info Commercial batteries are good value for money, we used an 86Z in a Triumph Stag battery relocation: https://www.centurybatteries.com.au/.../86z%20mf/info 950CCA! |

Below 10V is bad - that normally triggers limp mode anyway. In falcons you'll have the trans flashing and be stuck in 3rd, in BMWs you'll have trans prog error. E: The last century I bought was made in the phillipines, din65L MF. Didn't last long so I've switched to exides which are cheaper. Last edited by oldel; 20-05-2020 at 01:23 PM. |

I know it’s poor internet form but I actually did something rather than just post about the possibility. Century 57EF MF, via Supercrap for $155.95.
Wizzer - are those blue and red lidded pots, a stone epoxy? |

megapoxy, mix it with crushed sandstone dust for small restoration fixes build up surface, let set, then re carve to the profile shape. Good price from Supercrap on the Century. Franco... good to have some ballast for ya boot. Now have 3 on the boat, 2 in the motorhome, and 8 for the cabin.

First thing on a cold morning, if the old donk don't catch on the first flick, I have to roll-start. Now this is not necessarily a reflection on the brand. Just that buying a 2nd hand battery is pot luck, and not worth the aggravation.

Bit of a Topic hijack I Know. But; Is it an Old Wives tale that Sitting a battery on Concrete Will send It Flat.. I had an employee who would Always only sit batteries on either Wood or Rubber, He Swore black & blue that they'd go flat sitting on Concrete.. My personal Opinion is that It's an Urban Myth... But Happy to be Proven Wrong, |

Franco, is an ACDelco AU22R520SMF good value at $109?
Hayseed: I’ve wondered if the “chilling” effect of a cold surface creates a situation inside a lead acid battery where the reaction is measurably slower closer to the cold area, and whether this creates uneven plate deposits inside the battery. |
