Hi all
Currently looking at a smashed 1999 Fairmont so it would be a series 1. Thinking of grabbing it to put the leather interior and climate control dash into my S2 XLS ute. Whats the wiring differences between the 2? Can I get away with it or is it something best not touched? Cheers |

I have tried this ages ago as soon as you turn the ignition on the stereo shots up to full volume. Apparently the steering wheel controls are routed through the cluster as part of the speed alert function, the S1 has a single wire to the HU for steering wheel control where the S2 has 2 wires. so you are better off sourcing a S2 or 3 cluster

Matt, The leather and dash etc will physically fit (as you know), but you'll need an S2 dash loom due to the Smartshield.

Matt, I still have a full S2 dash with cluster, climate control, the whole lot. Can't help you with the rest of the interior through.

Same sort of question here i guess:
I've just bought a series 1 xr6 manual ute. Can i upgrade the dash to a series 2 xr dash pad etc easily enough? will i need to replace wiring looms? Can i keep my original tickford instrument cluster, as it shows the vehicles low k/m's?

Bummer. I was looking at grabbing it because it had the leather and all and I could get it for around the $500 mark.
Still might be worth investigating. I forgot about the setup you have Andrew. I remember we did chat about it long ago but forgot the price. Wanna PM it to me again? |
