Hey boys and girls,
Since I'll have the engine out of the EF soon, I thought I'd replace the welsh plugs while I'm at it... What sizes are they and how do I remove them? I'll probably do all of them...

technique .........this is as good as any i think even though it`s not a falcon engine, once they are loose i use multi grips to remove the plugs out myself, but even a good big pair of pliers will do the job once they are loose, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdaZj7UDVeo
you should definitely do all of the walsh plugs while the engine is out, don`t forget the one at the back of the block behind the flywheel/drive plate, 5 plugs on one side 2 on the other if it`s the same as au, sorry i forget the size/s, spare parts should know anyway. |

I find the best way to replace the welsch plugs whilst the engine is still in the car is to use two ballpeen hammers. The flat part of the big ballpeen hammer in the welsch plug then hit the round part of the hammer with the other hammer,this will give you many angles and even pressure to bed the welsch plug.

I used a socket that perfectly matches the plug size. If you're hitting the middle of the plug (rather than its edge) you may warp it.
Buy some spares in case one or two don't go in perfectly square. I discarded them even though they looked OK, just to be sure. Also, I think the original Ford ones will just be aluminum or something, I used brass ones from Super Cheap. I had a lot of trouble removing mine, especially the first, but this was what ended up working for me: 1) Use a punch to tap a small hole in the plug (probably not essential, but it seemed to help) 2) Use something to push the plug into the block. I used a larger punch, tapping near the edge of the plug. 3) Grab the plug with vice grips and pull out My driver's side plugs... Last edited by rowan194; 15-02-2013 at 06:48 PM. |
