Default what to do??

deciding on a 5 sp manual eb s xr6, or an ed xr6. theyre pretty hard to find, so if i can find one in good nick for about 6k, awesome. but if i cant....

how much work needs to be done, to a stock eb-d to get it up to xr standards or maybe a bit more, mechanical wise...eg. driveline and suspension. ive got a budget of around $6000

any help appreciated

dan

if i were you, id buy the XR straight up! turning a Gli into an XR would nearly cost you the same amount in XR Parts than what it would to get the whole car! then the fact you have to do diff changes, interior swaps, engine swaps, Manual conversions (unlees you find a manual one) or the other option is to not worry about XR parts, get a GLi and go nuts on performance stuff! but if i were you id find a manual model straight up, will save a lot of hassles chasing up a "good" box and all the other stuff needed.

if i was in your position.. i'd hunt around for the ed xr6 in manual... might have trouble finding one.. but worth spending time finding one it'll be worth it in the long run. otherwise you'll be like me and be forever buying small things to make your gli better lol.

ed xr's go for a heaps more than eb's. but its only cosmetics aint it?? (twin lights, clear indicators, etc..

im kinda stayin clear of ea's...prolly go an ebII onwards, whats the jmm dev3hl kit?? ive heard about it, but i dunno coz i live in WA.

im gonna get a manual straight up, whats the difference in diffs and suspension. besides the xr having lsd.

hey neb, ill be doing that with the xr nywayz :P but is there a better model to start with....futura??

get an ED GLi 5 speed, dump it, get some nice wheels, full zorst, cam.

The XR6 drivers will be looking at your nice GLi badge. Insurance will be cheaper for a Base model too.

Go a Fairmont/Ghia... All the luxuries and to bring it up to XR performance, I'd say you're looking at the following:
Shorter diff ie. 3.45/3.9s etc
Bigger cam (Wade does regrinds for 120 exchange)
Exhaust & extractors

and I dare say you'd be comfortably beating stock EB/ED XR6s & 8s.

Most hyundais would be lucky to be pushing 55rwkw, also yes insurance is a lot dearer on XR's for example it costs just under 1k more a year to insure my EF XR6 than it does for my brother to insure his EF Futura (granted his is stock and mine has some mods). But 3rd party you should be alright will proably be about $600ish a year

OK, to get 115kw out of a hyundai, you'd need to spend about $10k on a turbo kit, strengthened internals, intercooler, etc. It'd still be an ugly as shit, everyday hyundai worth nowhere near the $$$ you've poored into it.
I've got an ed gli, i spent $1000 on extractors, exhaust, intake and cam. It puts out 127rwkw and puts VS commy's to shame, yes, even that supposed precious icon, the SS. I still run the 4speed auto but was lucky that mine came optioned with a 3.45lsd. With a T5, i'd be in heaven!

just for your info, fwkw relate to front wheel drive cars, and rwkw refer to rear wheel drive cars.

The great thing about owning a sleeper looking E-series, is that all the fully sik homies think they can take you in their fully sik clunkadores with their fully sik clubsport wheels.

good luck with your XR, they are a great machine.
