Angry 2007 Focus t-bar stuck and will not move

Parents car. Father switched off car while it was still in drive position and complained that he could not remove the key from the lock barrel. I tried to move t-bar at first but could not move it out of D. Tried to remove key but no luck. Tried to start car but again no luck as will not start in D position. So I forced t-bar into N and could start car. Then with engine running forced t-bar into P, switched off car and removed the key. Thought all was fixed. Now car can be started but t-bar cannot be moved from the P position. WTF is wrong?

The silver trim around the shaft falls down a few mm into the channel, jamming it. You need to lift it up and then re-tighten the torx screw on the front part of the t bar handle.
