Default Horn Button on MK1 indicator stalk

Howdy fellas.
Took off the end cap of the indicator stalk to check the condition of the contacts for the horn switch. Can't for the life of me get it to go back together and stay together. Is there some special trick to it or do I need to use some adhesive? Thanks.

glue it , tape it , what ever is needed

this ebay seller wants $284 plus postage for the part.... and its used

fit a push button to work the horn somewhere handy

Attach sticker .."Horn broken watch for Finger"

How did you get it out/apart big al?
From memory, long time ago I think the button has a ridge around the base to prevent it being pushed out of the housing.
leverage may damage/strip this ridge.
I believe the button was installed while the two halves of the housing ot the wand were apart then glued together around the metal stalk
They are getting rare.
If its concourse you'll need to pay up or get greative otherwise adapt something from another car or relocate elsewhere like steering wheel center

Dirty hands and JPblue, thanks for the reply. She's definitely not concourse, so I'm not gonna spend up on ebay. Some "mechanic" I was speaking to said he "remembered" that you could lever off the end cap with a sharp blade and fix if required. Of course I've now discovered that the switch is working fine and it didn't need fixing. Doh!!!
Anyway here are a couple of pics showing what I've done.

Thanks Dirty, the horn works when put straight onto a battery which was why I thought the switch might be dodgy. Thinking now might be a dirty earth or I might need to clean up the fuse box a bit.

I bought a Land Rover Series 3 one which works and fits perfectly in mine. My horn worked but the indicators were playing up.

LG17 thanks for the tip. I'm going to put mine back together as the indicator switch is fine. Worth keeping in mind though.

I never had any trouble with the horn or indicators working on mine when I had it many many years ago, I do however remember having to hold the stupid stalk with a fully closed hand and it pull it up or down to turn on the indicators :( It was either that or the centre part of the stalk would spin around, the indicators wouldn't be engaged and eventually the wire/s going to the horn button would shear off Araldite was a temporary fix for that problem but in this instance it should work fine Design has certainly come a long way since the early seventies
