Had one at work a few months ago that we towed in. Tried all the things on the other forums several times. Ended up tow starting it after fitting new plugs.

Definitely worth taking the plugs out and having a look to see if they are in fact wet. If so dry them off and if they look easy to replace quickly try heating them up with a cigarette lighter before replacing them - with lawn mowers at least this seems to make them easier to start. If they're not wet then I'd start to wonder whether it is in fact flooded - assuming you mean fuel and not car in body of water?

Nothing wrong with rotors, just a bit tempermental is all.
A fair bit similar to an 8 with a giant cam etc. Remove the plugs, and give it a wind over to help clear the combustion chambers, and try again. Ed

I think the RX8 is a terrible car.
Good: good handling, looks funky, unique, funn-ish Bad: awful fuel economy, modest power, very cramped inside, expensive RRP when new You cant have a tiny car which chews 13L/100km AND also not be super fast. And be super expensive when new, i.e around 58,000. Sorry, its a joke. |

If you have a glass cleaner machine then chuck the plugs in there.

Generally a tow start is the best bet in rx8's then give it a dammed good hiding once it's up and running.
Biggest issue with these cars is people baby them around.

Hi mate I work for mazda and this is how we get them started.
First thing to do is remove the spark plugs and clean them with some carby or brake cleaner. It would be best to replace the plugs Then disconnect the crank angle sensor and crank the motor over for about 5 seconds this will remove excess fuel from the rotar housing. Next you will see 2 rubber plugs on the intake manifold remove these and with an squirt oil can and a piece of vacuum hose put about 4 pump of rotary oil into each. This will oil up the rotar housings and help you get some compression. When the motor floods it removes all the oil from the housing and makes it difficult to get compression. Next make sure the crank sensor is reconnected and plugs are refitted then crank car with foot flat on the throttle till the motor kicks then release as soon as the motor start to run give it full throttle otherwise it will just stall. Hope this is of some help it can take many attempts to get it started there is a little bit of a technique required with the throttle but it's a little hard to explain in writing. Good luck |

Had a look at the price for plugs and they make my iridium plugs in the turbo look cheap!

Keep an eye on the oil too as if doing lots of short trips the oil doesn't get hot enough to get rid of the condensation that can built up overnight in the motor, particularly if parked outside, then you get a lot of condensation water diluting the oil and seeing some white streak on the dipstick etc. In winter it can pay to tape up the oil cooler etc. so the motor gets to and keeps temp better. They are a good fun drive though!

Depends on what else you've driven. We know what you know now.

Um without going to OT can I ask a question...what is it like driving one of these for a daily?
Ive been in a RX8 GT before, a quick spin if you like, but as far as living with one is it that doable? Because without being rude I had a quick look on carsales and they are pretty cheap! Whats the catch? I love the last of the RX7's but they seem to be double the price of some RX8's for what is essentially the same car?

The later RX7s - series 5s onwards - were turbocharged and were proper performance cars. The RX8 were an NA rotor (welcome to 1981!) and too much of a compromise. Last edited by Alan D Segal; 25-08-2014 at 02:23 PM. |

Got it going. Took it for a good drive before giving it back to the little bro. Quite a fun little car to drive but my F6 produces so much torque I found it a bit bland in a straight line. Like it through a few twisties though.

My son is on his second RX8, he had never had the problem nor had he even heard of it. I think I had doing some research when he was buying the first.
