Took the cover off my left hand kick panel to install a crossover, just did the right hand side it's pretty schmick, but I saw THIS lump of aluminium sitting in there:
 Does anyone know why it's there? I'm just thinking of ripping it out. |

arm79 is correct. Just cut the bunch of wires on top and pull it out. It will make the car faster but you can get defected if the police see you have removed it.

Kamshaaft - if you are serious and you do not know what this does, I suggest you listen very very carefully. DO NOT, AND I MEAN DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PULL ANYTHING OUT. THAT ALUMINIUM BOX YOU CALL A LUMP IS YOUR CAR'S ECU (BRAINS) TO YOUR CAR. Without this, you car will not run.

Ford put it there to even out weight distribution. Due to the extra weight on the drivers side with the steering, pedals etc. Ford just shoved this aluminium box into the passenger side to offset it. Ignore the wires that go into it. They're not actually used for anything.
