The Government's "purchase" of the independents support is now the cause of 5.7 million Australians, including many retirees and those reliant on interest income, having to wait for the fulfilment of a pre-election promise that would have helped to elect Labor. Their promise to give a 50% discount on interest on the first $1,000 of interest earned on deposits has been put off for one year to help fund additional government spending in regional Australia. This was a major negotiating point of the Independents in determining who they would support in Government. I hope the Independents are really happy about this.
