Default cam question????

what effect do the lobe centres have on a cam?
as in do they have something to do whith what rpm a motor makes its power ?
do they have something to do with how much duration a cam has,or how much duration you can get ?
is a smaller gergree lobe centre better ?if so why ?

thanks for your help ,

Lobe centres are the peak point of the cam lobe.

Lobe centres are points to determine the lobe separation angle between 2 lobes on a cam inlet and exhaust.
The wider the lobe separation, generally give you a wide band of torque, with maybe some loss in peak power.

A tight Lobe Separation Angle will give you a peak power at a certain point relative to advance and retard of the cam, also some torque losses.

The tradeoff in tight LSA is less of Dynamic compression ratio with long durations at high RPM.

A tighter LSA is good for quick accelleration and high RPM operation say like speedway and drags.

Read some books on cams, alot of them are on V8's and may or may not be directly applicable to I6's.
