Focus problem

My sister has a focus probably about 18 months old drives like a dream but every now and then it goes through a stage where it simply cuts out and chugs to a stop. No pattern, one on Hume Hwy just getting onto ring road, stopped dead in traffic and had been travelling for 2 hours. RACV could find nothing wrong and it started up again but stopped every couple of kms. THree months later been travelling for 2-3 kms and stopped again. She could start it up again and hop a few metres to the nature strip. Go towed to dealing - needless to say- nothing wrong and that is where it still sits until they find something. It is just too dangerous cutting out in traffic with trucks wanting to drive over the top of you. his might not be a focus isssue but it is a big problem that no one can find the solution to. Any answers friends

Has it got an alarm?

no just immobiliser but I may have given wrong info-it doesn't cut out but rather loses power at any speed and can only bunny hop for a few metres

This type of problem can be quite painful & sometimes all the equipment & knowledge in the world may not find it in a hurry.Many things come to mind,fuel pump,ignition module,ecu or anything electrical.My advise would be to contact Ford for warranty as it could get costly or you'll have to wait until it stops completely for a true diagnosis.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Never heard that before with Focus. Unfortunately sounds like some pain in getting it diagnosed but SURELY in this day and age of computers you'd expect the cars to log something.

I support full electronic data recording of all parameters because you'd ifnally be able to prove that something is out of the ordinary if something went wrong, not just prove what went wrong in an accident... use their recording technology against them.

True you would expect success but however this was not to be. Car collected after nearly a week and no one knows anything. Whatever happened to the mechanic who did the looking by himself instead of relying totally on the computer. The computer is a disgnostic tool not a mechanic who one would think might have the skills to trouble shoot. Sad situation

Just a couple of things with my Focus and its fuel system

1) Replaced fuel Sender
2) Replaced fuel lines from tank as they had a small kink in the lines
3) Updated ECU software
4) Spark plugs and leads changed

Might be worthwhile checking

Was that because of a similar problem or were they simply things that needed to be done
