Default Scarecrow Police

Channel 9 news reports that NSW police are using dummies to try to get motorists to slow down aparently a full stickered HWP car is left parked with a coat and cap placed around the seat to look like an officer is inside there are 5 of these cars accross the state and are parked on main highways...... :
Thats got to be a Gee up they cant be serious............these cars cant book you or give chase as the dummies are unlicensed.

Heard that they have cardboard cut out police cars overseas as well on highways with the occasional real police car further up.

Would be a few "phews" when people realise they aren't real.

They could probably buy 2 stickered up bog standard XT's for the price of a HWY Patrol car. What would be wrong with employing civilians to drive them around and park them in high risk areas.

I think they're a great idea. Think about it, what makes you slow down more, a marked car or a hidden camera?

agreed, its not about the revenue its about getting motorists to realize the speed isn't it, so if they make people slow down and behave correctly in the vicinity of the camera then its doing the job, not just taking peoples money like always

My only question is why should the presence of a marked police car be the only reason to follow the speed limit. It really annoys the hell out of me when a camera's coming up everyone slams on the brakes even though they're going slower than the speed limit.

Our tax dollars hard at work again. Amazing. What money wasting ideas are our politicians going to think of next?
What amazes me more is that they all most likely had countless meetings at the tax payers expense and the outcome was "lets purchase a couple of cars. Sticker them up and park them on the side of the road to deter people from speeding for a few hundred metres."
Maybe I'm not viewing it as others are but wouldn't it be better to spend it on educating their future tax payers? Get programs started in our schools at a young age say year 7 and carry it through to the final years. Educate and shock people. Maybe even encourage students to join motoring groups and track days at the local go kart track to start with, this way they can all learn to steer, brake and get some driver judgement skills. Even make it an assessment critria that all need to to pass to allow them to apply for a their learners permit.
Surely, if they were serious about saving lives etc, they could dip into the millions they make from speed cameras, rego etc put a package together to introduce into our schools?
The only good that I can see from what they have come up with through such an idea is when they need to replace the cars, there shall be a number of low k HWP cars going cheaply to the public at governemnt auctions.

Saw that car yesterday. Car was in full view and didn't appear to be hiding as they normally do. Just outside of Goulburn not far from the turn off to Canberra.

For the 13 seconds it takes on my routinely hourly trips to pass the marked car equipped with optional dummy, I guess the marked car. What about the other 59 minutes and 47 seconds of my trip?

Here's an idea - put more actual police on the roads.

If you read the report they are old patrol cars at the end of their life waiting to go to the auctions, not new cars.

Thats just silly, police 24/7 on all roads because you MIGHT speed during the other 59 minutes?

People will only react that way if they think its a FAKE, not many will catch-on.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not...?

On second thought, perhaps not - so I'll answer what I think you mean. 5 cars with dummies in them will do jack squat. A higher visible police presence on the roads is what's needed. Police doing actual policing. The high probability of seeing a patrol or two anywhere during your journey will do a lot more to temper and catch moronic behavior.

What impact will 5 marked cars armed with dummies throughout the state of NSW have?
